I thought I would share some of the Quizz questions that my daughter had her guests answer at her Mardi Gras Birthday Party. First we were drawn pairs out of a HAT! Then we had to sit in the garden on rugs, blankets and cushions while snacking on tit-bits and Sangria! The mood was absolutely fabulous, and the fun was about to begin. Lets see if you know any of these Odd questions she asked of us. 1. From which Movie/Broadway production does the song "Springtime for Hitler and Germany" originate? 2. What is another name for a "River Horse" ?(it is derived from Greek) 3. What is the collective noun for Owls? These should keep you busy for a second or two on this Fabulous April 2nd!

"Springtime for Hitler" comes from a hilarious Mel Brooks show/film, "The Producers" and Hippopotamus means, literally, 'horse of the river'. Who better than I should know that a collection of owls is called a 'parliament' (though exactly why is lost in the mists of time). Who would have guessed that the solemn Latin name for the barn owl, Tyto alba, comes from the Greek word 'tyto' - the equivalent of the childish name for an owl, 'Twit-woo', and the Latin 'alba' meaning white. Unfortunately, the barn owl does NOT say 'tewit - tewho' (they are the male and female calls of the Tawny Owl) and he is not really the whitest of the owls (the snowy owl is whiter).

I believe the term parliament originated due to the owl being associated with wisdom. I can understand this being misunderstood these days considering the type of Parliaments that we now have.

You get 10/10 for your great summation of the answers. Well done. Quite a bit of randomness in a birthday quizz don't you think? Presently our Parliment is occupied by blind mice rather than any wise owls.

Number 2 is the easiest one for me. Hippopotamus. I mentally was thinking of Greek for horse. Hippos and knew immediately. The others I was ready to look up but read the comments. The movie I haven't seen but I think I knew that a group of owls was called a parliament.

I knew all three immediately, but I do like the variety in questions. When I first watched The Producers I really enjoyed the song "Springtime for Hitler and Germany" I am now struggling to remember the song that followed, which was the one that drew the audience back due to the effeminate manner of the actor playing Hitler.
