My Spontaneous Roses Are Red

The roses in my garden - by LadyDuck

Some days ago, I wrote about a spontaneous rose bush, that was growing in my garden. I have not planted the roses and in that spot there were never flowers during the 17 years we leave in this house, so I suppose that the seeds were blown there from the garden of one of our neighbors. As I had no idea which kind of roses and which color they are, I was anxiously waiting that they bloom. Yesterday, I finally discovered two roses in full bloom, they are bright red. This is a photo that I have taken this morning, soon after a light rain shower. Do you have spontaneous plants in your garden?

They are beautiful roses, especially since they just popped up in your garden! I have plants that were moved by the squirrels or self seeded.

I also thought that the seeds were moved by the birds. Now I have to be careful when I mow the lawn, the roses grew just in the middle.

@DianneN I am also planning to move the roses in another area, but I would not like to kill them.

@LadyDuck Lol! I have flowers and shrubs growing in the lawn. I'm going to replant them elsewhere when the time is right.

I have never heard about a rose bush showing up without being planted. Maybe it was there when you bought the place, but didn't grow until recently? Is that possible? I don't think roses grow from seeds anymore.

No, it's not possible that it was there when we bought the place (17 years ago), because we have completely remodeled the garden and I suppose that 17 years are a too long waiting. They are identical to the roses in the garden of the neighbor.

@ElizabethWallace Every plant and flower in nature comes from a seed. I have read gardening blogs and books, even roses can be grown from seeds, no matter if you plant the seeds, or if they are "naturally planted" by the wind and the rain.

@LadyDuck Okay. Then I don't get it at all. I didn't think roses could grow without being planted.

They are incredibly healthy. It's true that the plants know where it's the best spot where to grow.

@toniganzon They have grown in a shady spot, near the fence and the bamboo.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the sweet smell of those roses. The ones you buy in the stores, have no smell now.

What a bonus Anna to have that extra rose bush in your garden. I do get 'spontaneous' (love the way you use that word) flowers, but they have usually seeded themselves from the previous year.

Now I do not know if to dig all around the roses and move them in a better area, or to leave them in the middle of the lawn and mow around every time that I mow the lawn.

Pretty roses . I do not have any luck for such things happening here but do have some wild flowers. I then accept them and nurture them

Last year a Robinia tree has started to grow in a big vase at the edge of our garden. I love the smell of Robinia flowers, but the trees can grow very tall. I have not yet decided what to do... I plan to plant the tree in the wood in front of our home.

Yes, it's a shame that they decided to grow right in the middle of the lawn.

I do not have anything that isn't spreading from my own plants. I have never heard of roses spreading that way.

After it happened, I have checked and I found that, even if rare, it's possible. Now I will try to spread the bushes.

@Jessicalynnt Does it ever freeze or get cold where you live? That is what lilacs need to make them bloom.

The young oak tree at the edge of our garden started the same way - a little shoot that I avoided mowing. It is now a good 15feet, 4,5m or so tall. Your roses look lovely, have they much of a scent?

There is a birch that has started two years ago in a corner of the garden, now it's almost 2 meters tall, I do not want to move it, I fear it will die. The roses have a delicate scent.

@pgntwo I think I am allergic to birch pollen, but I do not care, anyway there is a big one in the woods in front of our garden.

Those are beautiful and just in time for a wonderful Mother's Day bouquet. I just wish I had a garden. I do have my day lilies growing and should be blooming in a couple months. My snow on the mountain is starting to look good and I've been watching the progress of my peone that was mowed down continually last year. It's doing great! Of course all those flowers were planted by a friend who brought them from her garden or I wouldn't have any. What I plant never breaks the surface.

It's a shame that the roses were not in bloom three days ago when I have visited my Mother. I would have been so happy to bring her my flowers and not flowers that I bought.

What a beautiful plant. How fortunate you are to have them in your yard/garden. Nothing spontaneous around here at the moment. Our little spontaneous garden from last year is gone. We had lots of tomato and pepper plants that popped up in our compost pile. They thrived better than the ones we planted.

@LadyDuck I got plenty of salads out of those tomatoes. They were very good. They will not be returning this year. Our compost pile burned down a few weeks ago.

I also had spontaneous tomatoes that were better and healthier of the ones I had planted, but they are annual plants.
