If you were to move to a new house, what would be your priority?

A friend who is going to be relocated to another city has to find a house quickly. When asked what kind of house she is looking for, she said her new place has to have a separate toilet and bath. I was expecting something like a good location or reasonable rental fee but then she mentioned nothing from my list. Personally, I would never care about a separate toilet and bath but then I am not her. Maybe she would have the same reaction as me if she were to know my preference – which is a balcony. I don’t care much about the view (but if lucky enough, that would be a bonus) as long as I can gaze up in the sky at night, count the stars, slap a few mosquitoes which are brave enough to venture near my solitude. While the house is an enclosed space, the balcony would give me that carefree feeling of enjoying the breeze while contemplating the meaning of life. How about you?

I occasionally enjoy star-gazing. It's not a problem since there are no tall buildings around where I live. This is an indication to my preference for space. I like a house that is spacious with high ceilings, If I were living alone I would knock out all the room partitions except the bathroom/toilet.

High ceilings remind me of pristine cathedrals. But you're aiming high fashion. lol

@josie_ The high ceilings provide good ventilation for the hot season?

A separate toilet and bath would be high on my list, so would a balcony or porch. We bought our forever home a few years back and we love the forest behind our house and the small town feel of the home and neighborhood.

@sol_cee I would like a big backyard, so there would be enough room for me to run around wearing only a thong.

I first look into the environment. I want a safe place for me and my children. The place should not be so crowded, not flooded and accessible to any transportation. The house should have enough space for us and our things.

Nice neighborhood. Spacious bathroom. A door with a triple lock. Fire exit if it's in a building. Enough space for me to do my daily theraphy.

I'm a bit paranoid whenever i move in to an unfamiliar neighboorhood. I guess im watching too much news or reading too much crime novels.

that's also on my list "separate toilet and bath" but my priority is it should be a good neighborhood, no flooding, near hospital, near school

But if it's near the hospital, you've got to deal with the noisy sound of the ambulance every five minutes.

@sol_cee that's fine with me I can sleep through that noise, what I can't deal with are noisy neighbors who don't do anything but sing karaoke that would have been good if they have decent voice but no, their voice are like scratching chalkboard sound so annoying

We bought and sold 4 homes - 4 moves - in the last 15 years....our needs: One level home on a full basement, a pool, a workshop, nothing older than 3-5 years, lots of acres, hardly any neighbors....

I would like bigger rooms shaped better. My place is two long hallways. I would like a bedroom I can stand up in and a lot more closet space. I want extra bedrooms because when someone stays here, they are in the living room

I am moving soon, and my preference is for a dishwasher and lower level since it's going to be an apartment. A nice patio/balcony would be nice, but I don't think the apartment I'm looking at has one.

@sol_cee No. My house doesn't have one and I haven't had one in any place I've lived in while in Wisconsin, in fact thinking about it, I haven't had a dishwasher since I lived in California back when I was married and my husband was in the military. So I'm looking for a place that has one.

When we were looking for a house my requirements were at least 3 bedrooms since we have kids, a fenced yard, a good neighborhood and pets must be allowed.
