Last night I got a fright. Switched on the light. What a sight! A knight on my myLot site. Ready to write The best Suddendeath poem that has ever been written. --- *Entry for this week's Suddendeath Poetry Challenge by @Jessicalynnt Assignment: Write a poem using the following words: write, fright, sight, light, night --- Photo: Me, probably 8 or 9 years old

Thank you for showing us that photo again (with the borrowed-for-the-occasion fountain pen!). There is so much character in it! I'd like to bet that any boy who dared to pull those braids got more than he bargained for ... and still would, even though the braids are figurative! I have to say that I could do no better with the words given, though the appearance of a knight is startling and mysterious!

@MALUSE I remember that was the deal. I imagined the ghostly image of the knight (in gleaming helmet and visor) reflected in your monitor as if just behind your shoulder. Enough to make anyone's blood run cold as a distant town clock strikes midnight!

I'm dumbfounded that you remember the borrowed fountain-pen! Indeed. And the owner of the fountain-pen used my exercise-book with my drawing of the squirrel for the photo. The mysterious knight is meant to give my otherwise shallow poem some depth. :-)

@MALUSE If you sent the email recently then the reason I have not seen it is that I am in the Isle of Man. I did not bring my laptop, so I have no email access until Monday.

@MALUSE - M.-L. - It behooves a gentleman to retain his gentleness and to reserve his comments to kind sayings that bear witness to the bald truths. Ergo: You looked like the kind of kid when you were young that any father would be proud of. As a followup to that, "Poetry is what a person makes of it." -Gus-

As well as the amazing photo and the super-snappy verse, the two-word alliterative titles have returned, yaaaay! :)

I've just noticed that Barry has used the comment I wanted to use. Although I would have said 10 years!! Now you've started on the titles I expect more Is that a proper old-fashioned fountain pen you're holding in the photograph? I used to love writing with those!

Yes, it is. I still have one. When I retired, I bought myself a really good one as a present although I don't have to write much anymore. It's just lovely to have and to use.

@MALUSE I would love to have one again. The only problem is that I do so little writing by hand that my handwriting is completely illegible these days.
