For the last few months I've wondered why I keep missing the discussions of those friends I've known the longest and yesterday I finally took a gander at that list of followers and those I follow ..... well no wonder I don't see them, there are far too many peeps on both lists so I've been working on narrowing those down.
Now I have a dilemma, just how far down should I narrow the follow list?
As for those following, I simply took some of JJ's old advice and did the block then unblock thingy which removed a lot of followers I don't know.
Have you ever had to unfollow people on your follow list?
Oh, I don't have to splain bout the photo do I?

Most of the summer I've been MIA, but now that I'm here a little more often I noticed a trend. One of the people I was 'following' was posting her day, two to three lines at a time. There would be at least three posts of hers in every scroll down of the newest discussions by those I was following. Hmmm, I really wasn't reading them and my comments would only create trouble for me...so no comments. Time to unfollow. That cleaned up the list, a lot.
Then with one frequent (constant) poster gone another one became more apparent. She didn't post nearly as much, but really; five posts in 24 hours about your balance? Maybe time for me to unfollow.

Hey, if you write it like a joke you'll get plenty of laughs @Morleyhunt
I'll pray that he finds one that will cater to his needs the way he wants .... if that does happen you'll get some much need rest. At least your dad is of sound mind, that is good for you all the way around.

@rebelann I've been tempted to start a discussion about how to get me to stop following you...the decided it would probably cause too much backlash...ill just keep it to myself..
On another note. My father is looking at retirement homes....fingers crossed.

I went through both my lists and pitched everyone I didn't know. I figured if I don't know them, then they must not have bothered to say "hello" to me when they followed me. And I never had that many people that I followed, so didn't bother cutting that list down.
It actually surprised me when I was just suggesting that administrative advisement how few people are on my list of followers now. (I used to have to "get more followers" five times to see everyone. When I just opened that list, I only had to "get more followers" once.)

I noticed something similar. I once had over 300 followers but I did what you did and blocked/unblocked a lot of those I didn't know and then I check through my following list and made sure they were no longer active before unfollowing them. Some I don't even know why I followed so those went really quick.
It helped a lot because when I suggest something I try to make sure it's either something from admin or something most anyone on my list would enjoy. I don't suggest very often.

Since I cleaned up my follow list I've noticed I actually see the discussions my real buddies are posting @DaddyEvil what a delight to actually see what they are posting in a timely fashion.
As for those following me, I doubt I'll bother with that list again, it doesn't seem to have done much good.

Half the people on my list are not here anymore or just don't comment or post or anything I need to go clean my list up I think. Some of my people are from now since being back and some are old people from when I was on here before.

I am curious about the block unblock thingy. What is that?
In any case, I don't really think much about who are in my follower and following lists. I find them confusing at best anyway - I look at a list somewhere and the button says 'following' but I go to the profile and I see a 'follow' button - that sort of confusing. Maybe I just don't understand how it really works.
I just follow back anyone in my follower list because somehow I think of that as sort of showing my gratitude. Hehe.
But as for what discussions to read, I just allow myself to get bounced around wherever. I go through notifications I get, to the activity of follows, and those different categories in explore, etc.

I should probably use that same rule of thumb. Oh, by the way, thanks for sending your climate to us, we're cool and humid these days and we're supposed to get rain this evening and through the week ..... ok, cool to me anyway, 70s is probably quite nice for you (just over 25c)

I pretty much only have time to keep up with those that respond to my posts, but I will see old friends on another person's post periodically and visit with them that way too. I rarely look at the top tab for any discussions since I'm usually behind already unless I'm so caught up that I'm bored or need a new way.
At present, I've not looked at either list for a long time and don't plan on doing so anytime soon. If you happened to do the block/unblock thing with me it wouldn't matter anyway, since I pretty much see most that I know around. If I ever forget some names I can always stop by Janet or Anna's posts and find people that way too.

I don't bother with it. I get notifications from the same few people anyway.

Exactly @cindiowens I hope what I did will give me a better chance to see what they are doing first.

@rebelann Yeah, sometimes I have to search them to find new discussions from them, and that is a slow process.

I unfollowed all but few and did the same to my following list when I was pretty upset with someone/something. In retrospect it benefited me. Now I am managing better.

Now that I've done it I realize all I needed to do was go through those people I follow to see who is not longer active and also unfollow those I do not know @Hatley now I see the discussions my friends wrote under the Follows icon .... I can still see everyone elses discussions under the Explore icon.
