Once again the cranberry harvest is getting underway around Cape Cod area. This is where it all began. Ocean Spray was formed as a co-op of local cranberry growers right down the street from where I work. Now there are plants all over the world. It is still a co-op of the growers. Local workers are hired to process the harvests. This is my sixth year working the ten-week season processing the received berries for their destination to be juiced or turned into Craisin™ products. It is fun learning how raw product turns into good wholesome food products.

We do not grow cranberries in the UK, but it has become a popular drink. It is interesting to know a little about their production.

Is sugar added to the craisins? I suppose no one but me would like them without sugar.

I am not involved in Craisin™ production so I can't say. Check the label or nutrition list. The Carver facility receives the harvest to ship to other facilities for product development.

Last year was a bumper crop. This year without the rains is lowering yield and raising costs for the big harvesting. Need water to flood the bogs.

@irenen1 Too bad the lack of rain is increasing the cost of the production of cranberries.

Craisins are sweetened dried cranberries. The process is a corporate secret. They are made at a different plant. I would imagine the process the process is similar to making raisins.
