Feeling obligated to comment "Happy Birthday" because FaceBook notifies everyones birthdays...

The thing about FaceBook.. is that they will notify you if its someones birthday so that gives you no reason to forget... I always feel obligated to comment to say "Happy Birthday" because if I don't - I feel weird because I was given a notification. Yeah, it's just another comment but I always do. How about you? And I must say.. when it comes to my birthday - that's the most comments I'd get to from people I hardly keep in touch with too.

Since supposedly all you are friends with on FB are people you like, then why not say Happy Birthday....if you don't want to wish someone happy b-day why be friends in the first place LOL.

Haha yeah but we don't speak anymore! =) Lol.. There are some people I'd like to unfriend (like ex- co workers). I can't really NOT BE friends with them when at work because they see me on social media & was like OH I FOUND YOU! ACCEPT ME... And it'd be awkward if I ignore them. THOUGH I did ignore my ex bosses request =)

@infatuatedbby I have no problem ignoring people I do it all the time. Some I stayed friends with to see what stupid things they do next.

I need to be notified because I always remember birthdays, but not on the right days. Someone's birthday is on the 10th December. Me on 10th November: Oh, that person's birthday is on the 12/10. Me on 9th December: Tomorrow is that person's birthday. Me on BirthDay: Me on 11th December: Oh no, yesterday it was that person's birthday. I forgot! I feel awkward at wishing a happy birthday, so I avoid whenever I can. I keep in mind those who sent me wishes first, so I can repay them somehow.

Hahaha ! You do get notifications on Facebook? Or at least I do! It pops up every morning around 9AM PST for me. Lol. I do most of the time write Happy Birthday =) But its awkward for people I don't talk to much or at all for years (though at once point WE were friends) ..

@sabtraversa Oh I see =) Yeah the time zone can be an issue! Yeah, it is strange! It's only strange for me to say happy birthday to those I don't speak to in awhile. And my thoughts are like they're going to be like OH she only wants to talk to me when its my birthday type of deal when actually we've just all drifted in ou own ways. But I still do want to greet them a good day but don't want to think wrong =)

@infatuatedbby Yeah, I do get the notifications and I'm glad of that. I sometimes get notified at midnight but it can happen before or later, it depends on the timezone of the facebook friend perhaps. I avoid doing the effort most of the time though. It is also funny to see people I've never talked to wishing me a happy birthday. Then instead, those I had some little interaction with might not write anything.

I know what you mean. I have some distant connections, but Facebook acts like everyone on the list is in my personal social group and needs a greeting from me. Some I connected with on other social sites, but we have now moved away, but will still tell them Happy Birthday.

Yes FB does notifies us but I don't always greet due to lack of time, I only greet my close friends and relatives. In fact, I even have hid my bday at FB to avoid being flooded with greetings during my birthday.

On one hand I think its nice. You do get a pleasant surprise from knowing there are nice people still out there. I think if you didn't want to send the birthday wishes then, you really wouldn't have. On the other hand, you do wonder who are these stranger that seems to have so much time on their hand. But a birthday IS special...so I'll prefer it if you err on the side of being nice!
