Frost in Florida? Too Early For That!

Before I headed to bed last night, something told me that I should check the weather forecast. I knew it was going to get cold here in north Florida, but I was surprised to see that we had a freeze warning in effect for most of the inland counties of the central and northern parts of the state. I thought to myself that there was no way we would have a freeze this early in the year in Florida. Thank goodness I put my thick down comforter on the bed last night, because it was freezing in my house this morning! And when I looked out my window at the vehicles in the driveway below, I couldn't believe that they were covered with a layer of frost! Would you believe I had to scrape ice off of my windshield this morning? Thankfully, I still had the ice scraper in my truck from last winter, and so I was only temporarily delayed while I cleared the ice from my windshield. Which worked out well, because it gave the heater time to warm up the inside cab of the truck. You know what I like best about winter? NOTHING! That's why I live in Florida! Which is why I was not happy to wake up to freezing temps and frost this morning. I want my sunshine back!

You be quiet mister! I love the cold weather and I wish we would get more of it, I hate sweating. If my husband could find work up North we would be there. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

@LovingMyBabies I think Disney World has come up with the answer! At Christmastime, they make it snow on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. They use fake snow that they spray from the rooftops of all the shops along Main Street. It "melts" as soon as it hits the street, but it looks really cool watching the "snow" fall from the sky!

Can it just snow without the temperature dropping below 60 degrees or something? To me, that would be a happy compromise.

We'd become completely spoiled if we didn't have a little bad weather every now and then! That's why God sends us hurricanes every so often!

For that reason alone is why we go to South Florida. You can warm up when we have lunch. Just be sure to scrape the frost off your car before heading down!

@DianneN Thankfully, there is usually very little humidity in Florida during the winter, although we'll get a muggy winter day every now and then.

Florida is a trifle weird! It's not even cold enough for frost over here. However, it also won't hit a high of 26 degrees until the spring now.

It is very weird, indeed, considering I have people from the northern United States telling me it is warmer there than here in Florida. We're not always the 'Sunshine State' as we like to claim to be!

@infatuatedbby I bought it when I got stuck in a freak blizzard in the mountains of western Virginia back in 2010. I went to visit a friend for a long 3-day weekend over Valentines Day, and got stuck there for 9 days! I never wanted the warm sunshine of Florida so bad in my life as I did that week!

Hello...I live in Florida! I shouldn't even know what a freeze warning means! Let alone what an ice scraper is for! LOL Although...it did snow here last year on Christmas Day, for about 5 minutes!

@BelleStarr I'm sure it will warm back up again before you get here! I think this was just a teaser for us. I wouldn't be surprised if it was hot at Christmas. I remember how hot it was last year on Christmas Day. The kids and I were at Disney, and we were in shorts and t-shirts and were still sweating from the heat!

@moffittjc I have always wanted to go to Disney during Christmas. I love the snow so I don't mind when it's cold and snowing. But when it isn't snowing, I hate it. I hate being cold and I hate having to wear a heavy coat.

@simone10 I used to love the cold so much, and the colder the better. But I don't what's changed in me over the years (old age perhaps?), but I find that I do not like the cold at all now.

I don't like the cold at all, whether there is snow or no snow! I like Disney's version of snow....fake! But it looks nice when it is "snowing" on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom when it's 80 degrees out!

@JamesHxstatic It's funny that Florida is known as the Sunshine State, but in reality it rains about two-thirds of the days of the year. We can get anywhere from 55-60 inches of rain a year, on average. Except, now we seem to be in a pretty good drought, which is not good since we are starting to enter into wildfire season.

@JudyEv Don't worry, my Christmas decorations aren't up yet. The city has an ordinance that regulates how long you can leave Christmas decorations up. And being that I work for the city, it's in my best interest to follow their rules! haha

I live in Florida, and I can't even imagine having frost or below-freezing temperatures! haha But I live in the northern part of the state, where it actually does get cold from time to time. I'm sure down in south Florida (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale) that it is probably still warm and sunny!

If there's frost in Florida, there's no hope for those of us living in the north of England! We've been warned of a severe winter this time. Well, we've had some bad ones over the years but the last couple of years have got off quite lightly.

Right, we lost the certainty of climate. In the last years the situation has been crazy here on boot land too. Center and South perplexed at the sight of snow, Northerners shouting "get your shovels ready over there" but they remain unheard. Southerners can't open their door anymore because one meter of snow is blocking it. And in the North the sown seeds wonder why the delivery of the white layer of protection is taking so long.

Usually not until January or February. It's unusual for it to be this cold this early in the season. Where I live in the northern part of the state, we only average 13 days a year where the temperature drops below freezing, so I can't complain too much. But for us Floridians, anything under 60 degrees might as well be freezing, because that's what it feels like to us! lol
