My American Goodies

# 45 As often the case, we don’t start missing things until they are no longer around as much. Common food that I’m familiar with in the States often remain as memories - either I can’t find them down here, or if I do, they will understandably be expensive since they have to be imported. Every now and then, I still like to venture inside specialty stores selling American goodies just to look around and perhaps to walk down memory lane a bit. These stores do have all kinds of all-time favorites snacks like Twinkies, Graham Crackers, Reese’s Peanut Butter, all the different flavors of Pop Tarts, and of course Hershey’s... On my latest visit, I saw a HUGE version of the original Hershey’s Milk Chocolate. It’s like the size of an A4 paper – okay, for those in the States who use Letter size instead, A4 paper measures 8.27 × 11.69 inches. And it looks like around half-an-inch (about 1.5cm) thick... I was bad on that visit because I ended up home with the goodies in my picture above... (Collage made using free Photovisi site)

Basing on the pictures of what you bought in that store , i can say that you have a sweet tooth . Usually , i only like Chocolate bars- Cadbury is my favorite brand , but the medium sized ones only , which me and my hubby can consume in just one eating . At least , we will just open another when we feel like eating one again on next days .

you know, you know enough americans that if there is something you really really want, I am sure one of us would do a trade for some local random fun items!

I know and that would be fun! I actually have families there and my sister have sent me stuff by post before... But even the most economical way of sending packages to/from there and here would still be quite costly...

I totally understand and don't blame you for spending so much and loading up. When we travel, I enjoy trying foods in other countries. However, I noticed some American candy is made special for Europe, for example, and tastes nothing like the original made in the USA. Enjoy your goodies!!!!!!!!!

Yes, there are some Kelloggs Australia and such... But I think the specialty stores carry goods actually imported from the US... As far as I can tell these goodies taste the same as I remember them in the States...

Sometimes you need to give in and spoil yourself. So are you American and now living down under or did you just live in the US for a while?

I guess I never think about those products not being sold in a lot of countries. I'm shocked Twinkies aren't universal!

I can go without them for a long period of time, but the temptation is there from time to time... And although I can always get a really nice bottle of pure Canadian maple syrup at any time, I just had to get the Aunt Jemima only because I knew I may not find them as easily at other times...

Those are the sort of things that should not be around. Everytime I see a piece of chocolate, no matter what the size, it fits exactly in my mouth. And I have a piece of paper in the fridge´s door with the list of no-nos that the doctor told me. Chocolate and salami are among them. And I´m sure that your list is forbidden too
