Go figure! SMH!

I decided to go visit with friends in Springfield last night. I went to the first friend's house and had a great time visiting and helping her do chores around her house. Then she and I went to another friend's house... Again, I had a great time visiting with my friends.... LOL! (Uhm... that actually should read that I had a great time playing with my friend's grandchildren! They wore my butt completely out!) I finally said my good-byes and headed for my car... I had gotten there while it was still sunny and bright outside. Of course, by the time I was ready to leave, it was 9:00 pm and quite dark outside. The porch light did a poor job of lighting their yard, let alone the driveway. Being typically clumsy me, I stepped into a drain without realizing it was there. I twisted my ankle. As it twisted, I heard and felt a POP! from my ankle. SMH! It was all I could do to make it back to my car and into it... I sent an email from my phone telling Pretty I was hurt and she would have to help me into the house. She came running out and helped me make it up our sidewalk, up our steps to the front porch and on into the house. She helped me back out to my car this afternoon and I went to the doctor... Yeah, it is a sprain. We don't know how bad it is yet. I have to go to a local hospital tomorrow and have it x-rayed. Then the doctor can tell whether I've broken any bones or not. Yehaw! This is so much fun! Hey, but I did score some good drugs in the meantime! (Well, good for me, that is! Remember, I'm the lightweight in our family! LOL!) Have you ever sprained your ankle?

Broke my left ankle playing football almost 30 years ago. Didn't realise it was broken. Strapped it up and carried on playing for a few weeks. Eventually the pain got too much so I went and had an X-ray. Broken ankle and torn ligaments. Not helped by playing through the pain for a few weeks. The doctor was not impressed by may 'bravery'.

OMG! You were one of those people, WorDazza? I would have never guessed that! (Your writing and verbiage seem to suggest a more thoughtful and intelligent person than what I (and most others) refer to as a "dumb jock"! ) Sorry... I just couldn't help myself there! Although, reading that again, I think my attempt at humor struck pretty close to the truth of the matter! (And again, I couldn't help myself! That story lends itself to too many of the crude jokes that went around about jocks when we were still in school!)

@WorDazza Well, I was never very interested in what passed for sports in school here. And yes, I do realize that soccer is played with the feet! I preferred to hunt, ride the horses (and sometimes the cattle), climb trees, swim and ride my bike. Organized team sports were never interesting to me. Strangely enough, the bullies never bothered me, either. I ignored them! LOL!

@DaddyEvil I was always a fairly decent all round sportsman, with football (that's the proper football actually played with the feet!!!), cricket (a game far too subtle for the average American ) and a good old all-American sport, basketball being my particular strengths. As someone of above average intelligence at a particularly awful school I found my sporting ability helped to ward off some of the more persistent bullying that other kids suffered.

When I was about four I managed to cut my ankle, requiring stitches, on a broken milk bottle. It was in the garden and broken already but, for some reason, I decided to try and break it into smaller pieces with my foot. Perhaps this is the reason why I have so often left things untidy ever since and why I am an avid recycler. Have to ask before anyone else does: these friends in Springfield - were their names Homer and Marge?

Hmmm... I suppose we should be grateful you even wore shoes at all when you decided to make your own glass shrapnel, huh? In answer to your question, Nick; No, unfortunately, Homer and Marge do live in Springfield, but it is not Springfield, Missouri. (I am positive I would have noticed animated, bright yellow people wandering around getting into mischief! Although, I have been told I can be very unobservant!) My friend's names are Max, Martie and Stephanie... I went to Steph's house first and then we went to Max and Martie's house. The grandkids belong to Max and Martie.

Thank you, infatuatedbaby. What do the doctors say about those sharp pains? I've always been really lucky, I guess. I've never had very many problems physically. (Other than the big problem I have besides the sprained ankle.)

Yes I had sprained an ankle playing basketball when I was young because I'm not comfortable with high cut shoes. Hope its just a sprain or a twisted ligament, from the looks of it it's just that, if it's a bone fracture you would probably faint from the pain, anyway the doctors and the x-ray have the final say I hope everything is just fine.

@DaddyEvil different people have different tolerance to pain, an ankle is a joint so if it sprains there it slips and simply dislocates, unlike a completely fractured, shattered shin bone with a marrow inside.

Yeah, the right footwear always gives support when it is needed. I am like you, I don't wear high top shoes, either. I am always too hot... even in the middle of winter, tight fitting clothing or shoes will make me sweat! I hope it is only a Grade Two sprain at the most! (I would prefer Grade 1 but my doctor believes it is Grade 2 or possibly Grade 3 sprain.) Uhm... no, a person will not normally faint from the pain of a broken ankle. It depends on the person what they will do in different circumstances... some may faint, but most would not if their ankle has a broken bone. If the ankle bone is broken, the person would probably not be able to stand on that foot/ankle, but even there, some people can continue on with only mild pain which becomes more severe over time. (Read WorDazza's box to see what I mean about this.)

Ouch, Manisha! You are supposed to take better care of yourself than that! I am not really enjoying the sensations emanating from my foot/ankle right now but unfortunately, it is not life threatening! My doctor said pending the x-rays, she will take me off work until Saturday at the earliest. Possibly longer if there is more damage than she believes. (I guess this is one way to get to take some of my built up vacation time.)

Yes I did, I was about 16 and being young and foolish I walked almost all the way home on it .... errr, umm, hobbled that is. Turned out I'd bruised a bone in that ankle probably because I wouldn't go to the school nurse.

Thank you, sishy! Sounds like you have some experience on the enforced bed rest side of the injury... LOL! Were your sons better at not using their appendages than I am? Pretty has told me three times this evening to stop getting up and trying to walk! I was always an active person up until the last few years. I have slowed down considerably, but I never had anything like this happen before. I honestly doubt anything is broken, but it is still very painful... Actually, moreso than the quick check of the internet led us to think it should be... IDK, I've also never been around anyone with a sprained ankle before... so what I'm feeling could be less or more than someone else might feel for the same injury.

@sishy7 Yes, I did. I had to go to my doctor, she gave me a prescription to have the x-ray done at one of the local hospitals. I had it x-rayed the next day. My doctor finally called Monday with the results. I had a type 2 inversion sprain. She had already told me to wear an ankle brace and use a cane around the house. The ankle brace fits in my shoe, so that's what I was doing. I am walking fine again now.

@DaddyEvil My husband was with me when it happened. At first he got mad because he said I never pay attention when I put my feet (), but when he noticed I hurt my ankle he picked me up and brought me to the car. It took a couple of weeks to fully heal.

@Jessicalynnt Uhhh... yeah, with my meds, I don't even realize when I'm on my own threads at least half the time! The other day I was talking with @pgntwo and said something about a topic we had been on a month or two before and he ask me what I was talking about. I described the discussion and then told him I was pretty sure it was his discussion... When he found it and tagged me to it, I said, YEAH, that's the comment I meant... And it is even your discussion! (Except I realized later it was really MY discussion. He never gainsaid me or anything! I guess he was trying to be nice to the stupid guy! LMFAO!)

Oh my gosh - looking at the date of your post here, I hope your ankle is tons better now! I've sprained my ankle plenty of times - can't even count. Basically I did nothing except to let it heal on it's own . . . but of course when you're a kid the healing goes a lot faster. The worst I remember was when I was in high school .. . actually it was on Christmas. We were opening up presents and my foot/leg fell asleep but I didn't realize it. So when I stood up and tried to walk, I must've curled my numb foot and put all my weight on it. Hurt like you know what for days - I just remember it took weeks to completely heal.

@DaddyEvil 4 days to heal is seriously good. I know with skating injuries, it took me more than that to heal (it had to be REALLY healed in order to take the impact of skating again). Oh geez, don't even worry about it . . . I'm sure the notifications have long fallen off. And when that happens it just goes to somewhere peaceful . . . that's just the way it goes in myLot land! [Turning to the right] [Turning to the left] Oh, were you talking to me?

Not that badly, no. My mom thought she sprained her ankle badly and had to stay off it quite a while. The following winter she couldn't get her ski boots on. When they xrayed it then, they realized she had broken a bone or two (I forget) and they didn't heal properly. But, other than not being able to get her ski boot on, it never really bothered her much. Any how, I hope your ankle is not broken and good thing you are getting an xray.
