I Want a Kitten

2016 is a little rough for us and our fur-children In January our cat (and another cat in the neighborhood) were murdered by one of the dogs that are allowed to run loose. In November (the day before Thanksgiving) we had to finally make the hard decision to have our labrador put to sleep. The vet said his body was shutting down and he would have passed within 24 hours on his own. Now, for Christmas, I want a kitten. My husband said he wanted to wait a year before he got another pet, but I'm really missing my cat and want a purr box in my life again. An old Co-worker said her granddaughter had kittens and I could have one. I asked her for a picture of them, but have not seen one yet. I'm about to go crazy for a kitten...... But even if I get one it won't be until after the first of the year. That makes me sad. I really want a Christmas kitten. Have you ever gotten a kitten (or other pet) for Christmas? Were you expecting it, or was it a surprise?

2015 was a very difficult year for me. When Guiness the Cat passed away in October, I knew I wanted another blogging kitty at some point, but I didn't expect to get one so soon. Huckleberry the Cat showed up at my door a few weeks later, and he's become my new best friend.

How wonderful that he showed up for you! Maybe the universe will surprise me with a kitty of my own soon.

I didn't get Huckleberry for Christmas, but he was still a surprise. And our first Christmas together was a good one.

I love kittens and cats as pet. I find a very cute one playing around before but it was given to another person. We don't like so many cats in the house so we just have two cats inside the house. I want an imported cat as pet but I don't know where to find one and maybe it's expensive.

@nonersays Yes there are so many cute kitties in the shelters! I follow my town's animal shelter's Facebook page, and every week they are posting more cats (and dogs) for adoption. And it's not even that big of a town.

I'm sure an imported cat would be expensive. I really want a "fancy" cat. A sphynx (hairless) or rex (nearly hairless) but I can't see myself spending hundreds or thousands on a cat when there are so many unwanted litters that need love.

When I was a kid, our folks got us a puppy for "Christmas." We actually got her before Christmas because the shelter was going to put her down, and she was the perfect size according to my father. He actually got a friend at the shelter to put her aside - they put her in the kitten room - until we got there so she wouldn't be killed. The only caveat he made was that we couldn't name her "Brownie." My brother said a friend had a dog name Prince, so we named her Princess. She was a very good dog.

I have never received a pet for Christmas and I would love it if I did. I think it would be great for you to get a kitten. They are so much fun and they keep you busy.

A pet is a cute gift at Christmas, but only of the person on the receiving end (and their family) REALLY want it. Because they DO keep you busy.

@nonersays Yes when you gift a person an animal for Christmas you got to make sure that they really want to commit to it and not get rid of it when the holidays are over.

Oh, I'm so sorry about the loss of your pets. Did you get your Christmas kitten? I never got a pet for Christmas, my dad is allergic so we only ever had pets like fish anyway. But my kitty I have now kind of wandered into my life as a late Christmas gift last January. Actually I'd known her as the neighborhood outdoor kitty for a few months but she has been in my house ever since a January snowstorm. (with her previous human's blessing...for whatever reason, kitty wasn't happy there anymore). She is my first cat, but I love her like I've had her forever. I do hope you got your Christmas kitty!

I did not get a christmas kitten. Or a new year kitten. Now our remaining dog has had major surgery and diagnosed with a vicious cancer, so I may loose another pet before I gain another one. :(

@fluffysue No, I didn't get a kitten. I was supposed to get one right after new years, but after spending $5000+ on the pooch...no kittne for me.

That is a nice present to get anytime. It is not replacing the animals gone but giving another furry one love it deserves. For Hannuka one year my brother got me a hamster and i wanted a puppy.
