Strep Throat

Every month since October, Lil Keith, has come home with strep throat. Both Lil Keith and Adam were diagnosed with strep on Monday. They got their antibiotics and I started cleaning the house. Bedding, pillows, stuffed animals were all washed, Lysol was applied to surfaces and they are feeling better. Now I feel like blah and I am afraid that I have it. I am so tired right now that I feel as if I am going to fall asleep right here in the computer chair as I am typing. If I am absent for a few days, it is because the strep throat bug bit me.

I am not really sure what Strep throat is. Is it just what we English from England call.a sore throat? We dio not have the term here. I hear Americans talk about it a lot It sounds highly infectious if you had to do all that cleaning. I hope your family.is better soon.

@Jackalyn I see @MarshaMusselman explained things to you. In our case, strep throat has lead to those horrible white pockets of pus in the tonsil area. It also feels worse than a regular sore throat. It is not fun. Allergies are so horrible and lead to so many ENT problems. Glad you don't get sore throats as often due to your allergy meds.

@MarshaMusselman I honestly thought we never use the term. Indeed I would just say something like a "really bad sore throat." However it seems it is in the dictionary and some people here do use the term even if I never heard them. The allergy meds might be a reason why I do not remember having a sore throat in a long time then. That does rather make sense as the meds probably kill the bacterial.

OMG, you poor thing. I hope you have lots of lemon juice on hand, it should help to start getting you well again. Now, if you drink, a shot of whiskey sipped slowly will kill some of the bacteria on your tonsils but that'll hurt like all dickens.

@rebelann thank you, we are all better. No strep for me. I had enough of that in November! I just needed the extra rest. Oh, I tried the whiskey route once before and you are right about it hurting like the dickens!

@rebelann Oh gosh I don't think I would ever give the kiddos the honey/whiskey routine. I can just hear their screams now.

I'm glad you're all feeling better, this time of year really stinks because so many get so sick. Yeah, it does @Shellyann36 but it works. Whenever we had strep and saw her comin down the hall with the table spoon n honey n bottle of whiskey we'd try to hide, of course that never worked. At least she was nice about it but still DAMN THAT BURNED.

I hope it isn't strep but if you are still off tomorrow you need to get tested and get your antibiotic, the good news is, with treatment it clears up quickly which obviously you already know lol I am such a mom, grandma I just can't stop myself.

@BelleStarr LOL being a mom/grandma is natural! It turned out not to be strep. I was just feeling a bit down. After a day of resting and some much needed sleep I felt better.

@snowdiamond thank you for the info. I don't mind liquor at all. Normally a bit of whiskey with some lemon and honey works well.

Thankfully none of mine have ever had strep, knock on wood. I am not a neat freak, my mother was not a neat freak.. I find that dirt actually helps build a healthier immune system. The only one in my house who ever gets sick is hubby, and he's like always sick..

@katsmeow1213 Knock on Wood double time for you! I am not a neat freak either but I find that if I don't do all of the washing, and disinfecting after the kids are sick, as soon as the antibiotics are over with, they turn right back around and get sick again. The twins are especially susceptible to getting sick due to their asthma and allergies.

My grandmother said (people must get tired of hearing that) change pillow cases daily when sick. Be sure to get some prebiotics/probiotics into the system (not the junk in yogurt) to help regrow the good bacteria. The ones who can gargle with salt water should do that daily, even when not sick. Bet you knew all of this, didn't you!

@PatZAnthony all of these are very true. My kids hate to gargle with salt water. The twins always end up gagging on it. As they get older I will introduce this to them again. I love the knowledge passed on by the older generation. I always take it to heed!

Whether you got it or not it sounds like you still should go ahead and get yourself some extra rest. Maybe you can push it off before it does take hold or something else entirely. I used to get strep throat when my allergies were acting up. Once I got it I tended to get it yearly and then at some point in time I quit having it again.

@MarshaMusselman allergies tend to lead to so many ENT problems. Normally, instead of strep throat for me, allergies tend to lead to sinus infections. I hope I don't have to go through that this season.

@Shellyann36 I already had one sinus cold. It began with two days of laryngitis and then congestion, but oddly enough it lifted on it's own before the week was out. I may have taken one or two doses of sinus meds, o/c type, They don't usually take care of it completely so at least it didn't last forever and turn into other things like strep.

Oh man I really hope you do not catch it too. Some people are more susceptible to it then others. My daughter chronically had tonsillitis every month for about 4 years until I finally got the doctors to remove her tonsils. I hope the boys get well soon!

If you are tired and run-down I guess you'll be more susceptible to illnesses.

@JudyEv this is so true and looking after 2 or 3 sick children at one time really makes a person very tired. Thankfully, I just needed some extra sleep.

Better to drink mixture of honey with hot water daily in the morning and before sleep.
