And on a much more positive topic, Second Hand Shopping!

I totally love second hand clothing shopping. I like the deals. I had bought a pair of pants, single because they were 26 bucks at WALMART (needed khaki or black, and not many options). I was pondering taking them back and making do with the single pair I had, but was afraid of things like, what if I rip them? Need to have more than one pair of work pants! J called as I was about to head home, asked if I wanted to stay in town and then meet her for dinner (was in town because I subbed yesterday in that town), so I did. I had an hour to kill, so I went used clothing shopping, only had time for one store, but that's ok! Get this! I found three pairs of work pants (good for either of the 2 part time jobs I have, or the FT stuff I have been applying for), at a price of 3.50 each! I also got a blanket and J a sweater (that has a tiny hole I missed, going to see if gram can fix, which I am really hoping she can), for a couple dollars more than that single pair of pants from walmart, which I promptly returned. I am now set for work pants, unless I have more time to go used shopping, and can find another couple pairs at that kind of a price. I still need shirts, but I couldnt find ANY green with a collar at walmart or the goodwill store. I can order online, but hate doing that, because it's hard to know size that way. Making do for now with the single one I have. Anyone else used shop?

I haven't done it in a while, but I used to a lot. I have enough clothes now, so don't need to.

@just4him I hope it works well for you, with enough you can eat and not struggle, and yeah not a diet but dietary restrictions

@Jessicalynnt If I stick to this diet, which isn't a diet, but a list of foods, I should lose weight.

Awesome buys Jessica! I love shopping second hand stores for bargains. Have found some great buys myself. Last shopping trip I didn't find anything, but hoping that I find something good soon.

With 5 kids that's almost the only way I shop! My daughter was whining last week that she wanted some joggers.. they're sweatpants with a tight cuff around the ankle. I also need new pants as I've lost some more weight and all my stuff is too big! So we went to the Thrifty Shopper, she got 2 pair of joggers and a few sweaters, and I got a pair of jeans, a pair of black pants, and a sweater. We spent $60 total, but that's far better than what I would have paid for the stuff brand new.

@Jessicalynnt My kids are at the age where they're not growing as fast anymore so their clothes can last them a few years. I probably buy a mixture of brand new and used clothes... but when shopping for brand new I almost always go with clearance items. Also I shop at places that have perks.. like Kohl's where you can earn Kohl's cash. I had earned so much Kohl's cash over the summer I was able to buy myself a $50 straightener and didn't pay a dime for it!

Plus seeing how fast kids can outgrow things there is no real point putting too much money in brand new full price stuff

I never did, I usually buy when clothes are in sold. My very small size is most of the time for sale, same for the shoes.

@Jessicalynnt For blankets, bedsheets, towels, table clothes and so on I check the cabinets and trunks in my Mom's home. She has so many things that she could open a shop. Now I want to check her dresses too, I am thinner, but I can adjust them. She had beautiful dresses tailor made when she was younger.

I come from a long line of second hand store shoppers. I remember when I was probably five or six and going with my grandmother into a second hand store down town. Isn't even there anymore. We have two just down the street. One down town and just all over. My daughter is learning to check the thrift stores before spending big $s on my grandson's clothes. He is big boy so buying for him can be expensive. I think that the older clothes and furnishings are better made than what we could buy first hand now days. So, we are actually getting a very good deal.

@AbbyGreenhill pretty much, just find what little I can when I can. I told my aunt about my need for a certain type of shirt in a certain color, she and gram go used shopping and garage sales (when it's the season) for their outings (gram is in her 90s), maybe they can find what I cant

I do that too, I cant always find clothes, but really cannot afford much atm, I now have enough pants to be fine. 4 pairs means some can be in the wash, or a pair could get ripped, and I would still have something to wear

Here there are no demand for used cloths. But there are some shops selling the minor defective cloths with a margin of discount.

I do. A few of my favourite clothing items came from thrift shops. I bought a pair of slip on boots at one thrift shop, just to keep by the door when I run into the yard. Then I ended up wearing them all the time. They have good grips for the snow. I can kick them off when I walk into the school, and slip them on quickly when I have recess supervision. Not good for deep snow though.

i do-but our store seems to be good for everything except pants.they seem to go from "is this a live person,or a skeleton" size to absolutely huge with no inbetween.which is great i suppose if you're one of those 2 sizes. they're good for shirts and non clothing items tho.

I went in for shirts and found pants, I find that having a list of random things you are looking for works better than a list of "I need exactly this one thing", because that they wont have. lol

We have a Red Cross thrift shop in town and I often pop in to see what's there. I rarely need clothes but some I have are pretty grungy even for 'work' clothes - work as in doing DIY stuff round the house.
