Would you fear that kids in the not too distant future could look like this?

This is what is feared would happen not in the too distant future. With the kind of exposure kids have and with the kind of thought process today's young parents go through it is not surprising that there could be a possibility that such scenes would be visible with kids in kindergarten. What are your thoughts on this?

What do you mean the future? We are virtually at that stage now. I see people walking through the busy city centre and crossing the roads without ever looking up from their mobile phone.

@allknowing Sadly the trend is rapidly becoming more prolific with younger groups.

That is where teenagers are concerned. I am talking of 3 year olds.

It is a sobering thought, but I fear the future is now. Middle school children already seem to be so attached to their cell phones as to believe they are a necessary appendage. And the way they dress would make a courtesan blush.

How far will this go when even kids would be a part of that trend?

@allknowing I fear it is becoming more of a problem all the time, girls 11, 12 years old wanting to show off what they've got, and thanks to all the hormones in the food they eat, some of these girls have much more than girls that age used to.

It depends on the parents. But I know there are lots of smart mom who will choose to make their kids enjoy being a kid. Only too immature parents would raise their kids that way. It will affect the child's growth for they are not able to be a child when they should be.

It is extremely difficult for a parent to refuse their child a mobile phone when all their friends have one.

@Asylum And that brings up the question, "Who is the adult in this scenario?" Parents aren't parents any more.

Not surprising..I mean it's the parents fault for spoiling kids with these advance mobile phones. Didn't you even wonder why Steve Jobs didn't want his kids to have those.

Is it not like that already? Shame that kids just can't seem to be kids these days as we knew it. It is shocking to us that they can spend so much time on these mobiles at such a tender age. They should be learning with real life toys but I guess it is the sign of the times!

Yes, it is exactly like that now Gary. You even see children sat together and texting each other rather than talking.

There are tell tale signs already now. When guests arrive their kids are equipped with video games so that they are kept busy without the parents having to do anything else to keep them happily occupied.

@Asylum I know. We were in a restaurant in Singapore and two lovers were having dinner or rather texting on their phones. I said he just texted her to say he loved her and she just texted back to say what are you after. I made up a conversation we imagined they were having! They hardly actually spoke to each other throughout the whole of their meal. They may as well sat on separate tables!

Let's just say it's part of evolutions, before we become like what we are now, our ancestors are just walking in uncemented road, don't have radio, television, mobile gadgets. Children have no diaper, baby food and walker. Look at them now. The next generation will be like them.

@allknowing yes.. Maybe.. But i don't know.. If i have kids, i will try to reduce theor contact with technology as much as possible. Kids should be busy in activities - like colouring and stuff.. Or outdoors , enjoying the nature

Really hope it won´t be as bad as what I am seeing. The little children around here are not on tablets or smart phones at the moment. They are shouting at the top of their voices and kicking a Football for all its worth. They make a lot of noise which is how it should be thank goodness they have not been given too many gadgets just yet.

I don't like this at all. I don't know if it's the way we are raising our kids, but thankfully, particularly my daughter who is almost in her teens, is not into skimpy clothing like some kids her age (or younger!). And they are not allowed to have a smartphone (except my daughter has a flip phone for emergencies but she does not have use of the internet). They may only borrow their dad's phone occasionally. They beg to have their own phone (particularly my daughter because almost all her peers at school have smartphones). But we are adamant about them not having their own phones until we see they are responsible first - and have enough brains to not get swallowed by their gadgets like this. I hate seeing the young generation like this . . . it does start super young as I see it all around me. But I will NOT let my kids fall into this . . . I can already see their friends getting zombified by their gadgets!!

@allknowing Well, it's just like not having pets until the ones who truly want it understand what the responsibilities are and are ready to take them on. I think too many kids are given a phone before they are truly ready for it . . . so we haven't given in. However, many of the parents around us have given in . . . and they all say it's a different time from us - that's just their way of life. Well, although that may be true, I still believe in good manners and socialization . . . if you give them the phone, they lose this learning opportunity . . . and I am serious they become slaves to their gadgets. I'll have to make a post on something we experienced recently . . . will write tomorrow.
