A Journal for My Thoughts

United States
February 20, 2017 9:08pm CST
About two weeks ago I purchased a journal. Of course the cover caught my eye. I have tried keeping a journal at different times in my life and failed to keep it updated. This journal also has pictures to color and I hope to keep myself amused while I enter a line or two. I have only made one entry since purchasing the journal. The second I will make tonight. Do you keep a journal? Do you post every good, bad, or ugly moment?

When I was 7 I started keeping a journal. I wrote it in every night until my second baby was born and I just didn't have as much time. I was always writing online so I didn't feel I needed to write in a journal. The one site so wrote on for along time was gather. It had so many of my daily memories with my kids and my late husband. I never saved copies and the site stopped paying and deleted all posts. I was so upset and years later I still am!

Wow that would be heartbreaking to lose all those posts and we're so dear to you.

@Happy2BeMe It really was and still bothers me. I can't get those memories back and really wish I had saved a copy. I started saving a copy of what I write to a folder on my computer so that I won't lose all those memories again.

@shaggin I too wrote on Gather, and my mother did as well. I was saddened to not be able to find any of her writings and she did so many. I would have loved to find them so I could print them off for my siblings and other family members.

@ElusiveButterfly , I used to keep a journal, but then I never had time to sit and write out anything, so I stopped. When I did keep one, I wrote down my thoughts and experiences of the day. I hope you enjoy keeping your journal.

I am going to write only positive thoughts. The negative thoughts only cause pain.

The blogging I do (all over the web) is my substitute for keeping a journal. Not that I ever used to keep journal anyway.

@cmoneyspinner the voices in my head keep me going in the right direction. No need to worry about what others think.

@ElusiveButterfly - Writing is a good thing. It's very therapeutic. However ... a word of caution ... you may derive benefit from writing... but someone could read what you've written and ... if they don't have your best interests in mind ... they could do or try to do some "unwholesome things" to you. So you might want to keep your thoughts "protected" or away from prying eyes. You don't want nobody messing with your head.

I do not keep a journal, but I keep an agenda, where I write the important things of the day.

@LadyDuck I'll grab my journal in a minute and write a few lines in it. Keeping it all positive this year.

I forgot to write in the journal last night. Lay my head on my pillow and poof, I was off to dreamland.

I go back to read the old posts I made 10 years ago and some make me smile. Some I delete. It is like ripping out a page of a journal that you had written, but now want to forget.

@Jessicalynnt I thought I deleted posts from when I was with my ex and then something pops up in the "on this day" group. They make me growl and I delete them.

I used to keep a journal and did so for many years. Helped me to remember things that transpired since my memory was so bad. I don't keep one any more.

I too have tried to keep one in past years. But, now that my mother is failing, I see the need to keep one and write positive thoughts that my children may enjoy reading in years to come.

@BelleStarr never thought to do a blog. However, I prefer pen and paper. That way my words are in my own handwriting. A double gift to my children and grands.

@ElusiveButterfly What I did was start a private blog on Boggger for my kids with stories from my childhood, stories my mother told me and things they would never know otherwise. I add to it when I think of anything that I think they should know.

The only journal I keep is the one that lives with our camping gear. From day one over 30 years ago we have written down everything we have done and enjoy looking back into the years when our children were little.

I wish I had kept a journal of when my children were young. It would make for fun reading now that they are older.

It's a beautiful journal. Once you get in the habit of using it, it will become routine. I use to have one as a teenager and I wrote everything in it, the good, the bad and the ugly. I have never had one as an adult.

Years ago when I wrote in one, it was mostly the bad and ugly. My goal is to write the good thoughts. These hopefully will be kept and shared with my children and grandchildren.

That is like keeping a diary. I kept a journal once which dealt with my daily food intake. I doubt I will keep one on my daily activities - suppose it falls into the wrong hands.

I don't keep any journal but I believe it is good to keep one. Good luck for this one. Hope this time you make it to the end of the last page of your journal. I have never heard of a journal having pictures to color. Looks like you will have fun with your journal book. Then this time when I go to stationary market I will search for that kind. I can git it to my friend.

I had one that I wrote in everyday. When I read it a few months later, I shredded it. There was a lot of negative thoughts. This journal will be filled with only positive thoughts.

I like the motif of your journal. I also like the idea that it's also a coloring book. Journals do not necessarily contain words alone. We can use doodles or drawings to express our thoughts. It's much more fun.

The pages will come alive when color is added to them. Also very calming too.
