Devastating News Today

When we got back from church today I noticed I had a message on Messenger from our niece in South Carolina. She was letting us know that her dad had passed away yesterday. This is my husband's older brother. I was just talking to him on the phone about stopping and spending the day with him on our way back home. I have already made hotel reservations. We are just devastated. I have known him for over 50 years and we have always had a close and cordial relationship. Of course, my husband is very upset, wishing we had stopped by his house on the way down to Florida but there is no second guessing these things. On that last call, Bill and I were talking about how dangerous pneumonia is to seniors and as it turns out, it is what killed him. We laughed about how tough it is getting old and not snapping back like we used to. I am so sad about this loss, he was such a full of life person who had a big heart and lots of musical talent. I am sure he is entertaining them in heaven even as we speak.

I am sure he is having a grand reunion with all those people who have gone before. If I know him, he is playing his guitar and singing.

That is such terrible news. I am so sorry! It is to bad you had not know what the future held so you could have stopped on he way down instead of waiting until on the way back. Very sad!

He is my brother-in-law. He is my husband's older brother. He had bronchitis and then pneumonia and it led to heart failure.

Thank you, Janet, this has really been difficult for Al since now he is the eldest member of the family. Sort of makes him next in line if you know what I mean, not a place wee prefer to be.

He was a great guy, he used to go and play his guitar and entertain the residents at nursing homes. He is a real loss.

So sorry- Iz. How shocking for you when you didn't expect it. I've had a bad year last year with unexpected deaths like that and know how you must feel. My condolences to your husband and you. Hope the rest of the year remains stable. As we get older - it gets scarier when relatives get on in age too. :(
