The internet and productivity...

When I first moved to town up here, I didn't get internet hooked up for awhile.  While I love being online, am addicted to social media and of course I really enjoy writing for MyLot and interacting with my friends - I admit that it does seem like I got a lot more done.  I know I neglected housework a lot less.   How about you?  Are you currently without home internet?  Do you find you get less done when the internet is readily available?

At least there's no housework in the retirement center. Anyway, I am happy that the internet makes the place a bit nicer for you :-)

I don't come online until my housework is done. I may pop by while the laundry is being washed and when I need a break. It is a pleasure to be here, but I can't spend all day and night as others do.

@FayeHazel We all get into a habit I suppose. I probably should go online first, but if I did that, I'd be there all day long. Lol!

I sometimes like it when I have no access to Internet - rarely though - when I can do much of work around.

When there is a backlog of other stuff to be done being without can add some productivity

I also like to browse internet but I always have my priorities. I always give priority to my offline work than I do anything else. You should also prioritize your work then should do online stuffs.

You have a good plan. Save online stuff as the reward for doing the more dull offline tasks. Not easy to stick to though...

I can't believe I did it now, but about five years ago I gave up the internet for a year. And it didn't bother me! It was for money reasons, and eventually I figured out how I could make enough online per month to at least warrant what I'm paying for internet access. I surely would miss it now!

Oh wow! A whole year? I commend you. I know. I am currently in a spot where every extra $1 helps... have cut back on phone service, TV, about everything that costs extra - but am leaving the net.... did you find you got more done when you were without net though?

I can get lost on the internet on a daily basis. I have to really pace myself. Most of the things I do online are for earning money. That is why I love myLot! I can earn money while being social.

Me too! I know I get lost online sometimes looking up little things, playing games, but MyLot feels like fun and productive

I just can't go without the internet. Just last month i had some problems with my internet connection and was without internet for 4 days. However i managed to do lots of pending chores. The internet does get it my way and prevents me from completing my tasks

Here some go to the library to use the Internet, but for me, having it at home is a must. Can't work online as much as we do if we don't have Internet.

@FayeHazel The library option is really difficult there. Not only do you have to get there, only a certain # of computers will be available and everyone has to wait their turn. Then the time online is limited. Some are there all day b/c they have to do projects online and that is their only option. Ugh..

That's what I did while I was netless -- went to the library - but still, it's not like having access yourself.

@PatZAnthony I feel bad for those where it is their only option. I was lucky because I live in a tiny town -- there is almost always an open computer, and if there is no line to use it - time is unlimited.

You would have what we call "mad skills" if you could read this, offline. :-) lol. No that's why I added internet at home in my posting. A few members here seem to utilize online cafes, or wifi, or even on their phones to access MyLot. The latter of which amazes me - how you could type any degree of easily or well while using a phone. Then - I'm old fashioned and far prefer my computer and it's full sized keyboard... :-)

Of course I get less done with the mundane house chores, but I get so much more accomplished with the Internet. I would go crazy if I didn't have it. Being down on Sunday for an hour and a half was more than long enough. I didn't go into any serious computer withdrawal.

As much as I love being here, I have to squeeze out time to be here, that is why I never quite keep up. @FayeHazel , when I don't have internet, I rest, but I freak out too, because I feel like I am missing out on something.
