It's called Genes for Good, at the University of Michigan. They are studying genes in order to try to find cures for some diseases and so are offering free DNA tests. Of course, they will use your genes for study but it won't hurt a bit and your DNA may be the breakthrough that they need. So if you're interested and would like to know your ancestry without paying for it (and possibly do the world some good) go here:

Sounds interesting! But what if I find out I'm descended from Genghis Khan, J. Edgar Hoover and Donald Trump?

I think you'd know if you were descended from Rump... or is your mother keeping secrets?

Oh my! Then you'd be on a horse invading a city in a flowery dress with a very bad hairdo!!

Ha! There is a lot of controversy about the evolution of apes to humans but I'm keeping an open mind. I do know that politicians are a evolved from reptiles!

That's far enough back to know who you are, I think. I'm not really curious about my ancestors, I have all I can do to handle the present without investigating the past!

That's one awesome good work put up by those scientists or researchers. Good luck with that, hope they find 'n' number of volunteers.

I'm sure they will since it's free. Some people might be put off by the questionnaires they have to fill out but I'm pretty sure they will have a really good response.

@dragon54u Yeah they will while the volunteers get to know their ancestry.

Interesting. Not sure what they would find unless I asked for information concerning my real Dad which I never really had the pleasure to know.

You'd know what country your ancestors came from and they might suggest someone you're related to. I think the main focus is getting DNA samples to help their research to cure diseases.

You're welcome! Freebie Shark sends me a newsletter daily full of stuff I can get for free and they are on Facebook, too. They even let me know Coke Rewards codes and Kellogg's Reward codes so I can get more free stuff! Comes in handy at Christmas and birthdays.

A lot of people have become interested in their ancestry in the past few years. I hope you find out!

It would be interesting to know but, truthfully, I'm not really that interested in knowing. For the sake of medical science it's obviously a good thing. But I'm just not that determined to know about my ancestors. It's not likely any of them were rich and left an inheritance that I can claim. I know that makes me sound greedy or selfish, but if there's not a monetary financial gain in doing the research, I really don't care who they were! Hey! I'm being honest!

@dragon54u I think I have to wait two weeks to get the DNA kit but I've done all the required steps. I'm still in there taking surveys. Some are interesting.
