Not all avatars are created equal

Some of us at myLot use a photo of ourselves, or our dogs or cats or some other living things. Those are usually easy to identify. Some use animated avatars, or photos of flowers. But there are some avatars that, due to the tiny size, are hard to explain. To figure them out sometimes I have resorted to trying to enlarge them to determine what it is. That doesn't always work. Taking something large and making it small then trying to make it large again literally blows it out of proportion! Why bother? Because I am curious and I think others are too but I'm usually the one to ask such questions LOL! So, now I'll ask you - why did you pick the avatar that you are currently using at myLot? Photo is mine and it is me, but that's not Ruby, that's Abby.

I use to have a cartoon character but then once I was on here for a while and got to know quite a few people I decided to add a picture of myself. I think it is always nice to have a face to go with the name.

I do have a few avatars that I interchange from time to time, although the two that I use most regular are the one that I am currently using and the one that I have posted here. I also like to use appropriate avatars for special dates such as Christmas or Easter and often create something new for a holiday. In general I will submit an avatar for an occasion and then revert to one of my regular choices.

@AbbyGreenhill Some are ones that I acquired online a decade or so ago, while others I have often created to suit the occasion.

Way back when, I think I took this shot of the sunset at the beach . . . and decided that would be ok enough for a profile pic on myLot. I think I used the generic avatar here for the longest time. I am thinking of finally changing it after all these years - I don't know why - just to change things up for once.

@AbbyGreenhill Apparently I have been here for 8 years now (took a couple year's break and came back when they started paying again). Oh yah, I guess the avatar could go either way. Now I look at it and see a lower case "i", especially when it's small. I need to change it.

It is an area not too far from our home and I have always thought it was a great shot. The view actually has a name. It is called "Broken Bridges" because that bridge use to be connected to another portion of it. That is why I used it here because I really think is pretty.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, it is Lake Hartwell. The lake is right on the border of South Carolina. So, when we look over the lake, we are looking into South Carolina. That mountain is in South Carolina. The broken bridge in the picture , use to be connected to another portion of a bridge and way back in the old days, that bridge is what people would drive to go to SC. Now there is a nice road that people drive to go there.

@LeaPea2417 OK, I think I know that lake...there is a little rental house on it that I always liked - nice flat ground out to the lake and doc....but when I checked for restaurants in the area there weren't any LOL - we don't go if there are no restaurants

I created my avatar several years ago, starting from a photo of mine and modifying it. I created the avatar for the first site I joined, it was Squidoo. I used the same avatar for all the sites I joined and I decided to keep it because people recognize me through this avatar.

I picked my avatar cause I love coffee and it's a unique mug. I had when I was on Bubblews and decided to keep it here since most everyone associates it with me. One of these days I'll put up a picture of myself

I agree, there are avatars that are hard to explain. The active ones drive my eyes loony and I try not to focus on them. Mine is just little ole me.

Unless one is seeking anonymity, a human face is more genial. I choose my avatar from one of my photos holding my grandson Zac who was two at the time it was taken. I love to look at it as it evoke fond memories when he was still staying with me.

@AbbyGreenhill _"Abby Greenhill" is a nice nom de plume. By any chance you are a fan of the tv series "downton abbey". Just curious as to how you pick the name.

My pic is a photo from my son's wedding. It is actually me and my husband but my husband doesn't want his face on the Internet, so I cropped the photo. I don't have digital photos. But my son had photos on his computer so he gave me that pic. So there was this artist offering free ink portraits and I sent him the photo. He used it to draw the ink portrait. I've been using it ever since. That's my real face. Nice artwork!

I often identify writers by their avatars and when they continually change them it throws me a bit. I tried to find a not-too-awful one of me and I've mostly stuck to that.
