Pinching Nerves

United States
May 26, 2017 10:14pm CST
I used to suffer from the occasional lower back pains with pinching nerves but now it's creeping up my back to my neck. It's stiff to turn my head and it'll pinch if I move too far out. I hope this is temporary. Any remedies do you know of? I've been getting lovely back massages from my fiancé. I'm going to put some Asian oil remedy soon.

@Courtlynn Thanks! I have gotten an x-ray, they said my back is slightly not straight but the pain just take tylenol or something. I try not to take any medication if I don't need to.

Apply some pain relieving balm. I too have some cervical problems which occasionally attacks. When feeling pain, I remember I forgot to do my exercise

To be honest i don't really know about any remedy. Maybe massaging will help. If it doesnt get better it is preferable to visit a doctor

Thank you. The massaging helps temporary relief but not permanently. Hopefully tonight when I sleep and rest, it'll be better. When I went to the doctor for my lower back pains for pinching nerve, they told me to just take pain killers - weren't much of a help.

The only relief I ever had was from acupuncture. It was the only thing that saved me. Has to be a very skilled person doing it however.

Is this an old injury? Or a hereditary thing? I hope the massages and oil help! I saw the comments about acupuncture - for me it did work - for a leg muscle injury and taking out swelling for a knee cap injury. They are very slim needles (different from "shots"), so they it didn't hurt - in fact the whole process was quite relaxing! Otherwise, have you tried yoga? I know several people who do yoga to help with their back issues. Hope your back feels better soon!

@infatuatedbby I'm no doctor, but I've had my share of injuries. When there is pain in one spot, I know my body tends to make up for it by using other muscles to compensate . . . and then it puts a strain in that area too. It's all connected. My friend is in IT - her shoulder/neck area was really hurting her and it was running down her arm. They told her it was stress related and the position she's in all the time while working. She had her upper area kneaded out by a masseuse (several sessions I think) and that helped her. Ah, so your aunt did acupuncture? My first acupuncturist was this lady who worked out of a hole in the wall downtown. My coach and his coach girlfriend recommended here. In the end she made me feel great, on top of accu, she also did chiropractic stuff which I didn't know she was going to do on me - and she was so rough I'm lucky I didn't walk out like a pretzel. The second acupuncturist was local and I went back to him so many times. He was gentle and was also an athlete himself. It does help to find the right person.

@much2say Yes she was, prior she was a nail manicurist then now she's a nurse. She's switched her majors quite a lot. I wonder if it's stress related. I do stress but only on the upcoming wedding and living situation. Shopping for homes, to live near my parents or up to a hour away. The homes here are way too expensive and old. But do I want to commute? So much on my mind ! I'm glad it's working for li when you have injuries! I'm all good again!

The lower back is an old injury that comes and goes. But this one is upper back/shoulder blade/neck, is new! I am doing yoga stretches again now.Thank you!! I am scared of slim needles, my dad got them before, and my aunt used to work in that field lol.

I got those sometimes... I couldn't lift my arm up when it happened before... I took tylenol if it's really bad just to ease the pain and loosen up the muscles somehow...

The tylenol loosen your muscles? I try not to take any medication if I can handle it. So far pain level is alright, just hurts when I move on purpose to see if these still the pinching.

A chiropractor is a good idea and some stretching exercises @infatuatedbby . You could also get a Tommy Copper back brace band. Do not wait to the point of having fractured or separating discs.

@nanette64 Oh no, how are you feeling now? Or what do you usually do. I use an oil balm based and had it massaged. I don't like patches, but we have it so I will give it a try.

@infatuatedbby When I finally went to a chiropractor, he said he couldn't touch me because I would become paralyzed (I had waited too long to get help). Have you tried the Icy/Hot Patches yet? They work really well (I use them). They are not easy to put them on yourself in those specific areas, but it can be done.

I had a pinched nerve in my neck once, and it was the worst feeling ever. I went to see a chiropractor, and over the course of a year he had me feeling like a champ again. I'll admit I didn't think chiropractors were legit medical professionals, but now I'm convinced that the work they do is nothing short of amazing.
