Now I have another hospital appointment

Today I received yet another telephone call on my mobile, this time from a member of staff at North Manchester General Hospital. I now have an appointment at the hospital for Monday afternoon. This is not related to the blood tests that I gave on Wednesday, but an appointment requested by my Doctor for the sore throat that I have had for a month or so now. I am wondering whether telephone contact is becoming the new system for hospital appointments, rather than the usual approach of a letter in the post. Hopefully this appointment will serve a purpose because at present I am having serious difficulty making myself understood due to the hoarseness of my voice. It is quite surprising that the person who telephoned me could understand what I was saying at the time.

I did not know that you had a soar throat for so long. Of course it's not a normal condition and I hope the doctor will find out what's wrong. We do not receive phone calls, they send emails or text messages.

When I first visited the Doctor about this he examined me and wrote out a prescription. I was dumfounded when I received the prescribed medication, which was Strepsils.

@Asylum Streptsils? This is a very basic medication when you have a sore throat in winter. I cannot believe that a doctor can write a prescription for Strepstils.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Apparently the nerve which carries the instructions from the brain is being interrupted by one of the tumours.

@Asylum At least if they can help your sore throat out that would be a relief. Could it be a tooth infection causing it? I knew someone that had a tooth infection that kept showing up as inflamation in the throat.

Sorry to hear you are under the weather right now. I hope that all is well Barry and they sort you out quickly! I am not going to say anything but some honey and lemon might help soothe it for you as an interim measure! Good luck!

Right now it has become the least of my concerns. Yesterday I suffered a major issue with low blood pressure, which I would have thought was impossible for me. I ended up with an ambulance and spent about 12 hours at the hospital. That was a horrendous day and really scared me.

@garymarsh6 I was fine not long after the paramedics arrived, but I dread to think how I would have coped without their help. Low blood pressure would never have occurred to me and therefore the idea of raising my feet above my body would not have occurred either.

@Asylum Many people ignore letters or lose them. Perhaps the hospital finds they get better response from a phone call. I get texts.

I hope that it isn't something serious. Some people have a knack for understanding people than others. I have that ability to hear and understand when someone can't talk as well.

I feel that I am also quite good in that respect, but talking on the telephone makes me rather conscious of how difficult I must be to understand. It also denies me the advantage of expressing myself with my hands if necessary.

Oh dear some serious throat problem you have there. I hope they are able to help you with it. Yes that would be a pain talking and being understood by telephone.

This whole situation is quite worrisome and it is no wonder it has been causing some anxiety. I am sending you a hug, I know that is cheeky of me and so not British but I an doing it anyway because it is how I send comfort to a friend and I certainly consider you a friend.

Doubtful because it is the throat itself which is inflamed.
