I told @Nawsheen,that I would do this post after reading her post about people who are like security cameras. Yes, at times it is aggravating to have some nosy person watching you all the time but then I really have nothing to hide myself. Perhaps that person just has not much else to do and unless they are hackleing why worry. Way back in my early 20's I married my second husband. What a mess that was. He was an abuser of the worst kind and as you see we looked like a lovely couple. One day he was drunk and found fault in something I did and started hitting me. I tried fighting back which only made it worse. I tried running and got out the door once screaming and he dragged me back in, but I guess no neighbor wanted to interfere? Except that old lady upstairs that sat at her window that we made fun of watching everyone. She called the cops and they got there none to soon. I had locked myself in the bathroom and he had just broken the lock and got in. He had already torn most my clothes off. I had both black eyes and a broken nose, and bruises every where and if cops had not come he would have killed me. He ran. and I thank God for nosy old ladies or I wouldn't be here. So don't jump to conclusions unless you have something to hide. They might save your life some day. of course lets hope they are not like some who watch to see if you are gone either to break in or something. i realize there are both kinds. lol. cause a few years later, I saw my neighbors ex take a tv from her back door and told her who took it when she called the cops. cause it was hers. so, yes I was a nosy lady also.

I wish more people cared enough for their neighbors. Way back, when there were real neighborhoods, we children were cared for by a lot of motherĀ“s eyes.

@bunnybon7 Now it seems that noone cares. I have seen that when there is a problem in a street, everyone takes out their cellphone to make a video of the incident instead of helping.

Good for her! Glad that she did call. I have had to call a few times because of the crazy neighbors we have had in the past. Now we have good ones, thank goodness. I heard a man abusing his wife and called. They were next door visiting and I sure hope that housing didn't get nasty with the tenants over it.

I am fine with nosey people like you say, them pay attention is what might save you during a break in or who know what. I am so glad she made that call, some might have hesitated.

@bunnybon7 I always think about the pay it forward theory, if I help somebody, maybe some day when I need it, it will be repayed. A lot of people do not want to get involved, what a shame. Waiting could be to late for some.

There is a difference between being nosy and being a concerned neighbor. Thank goodness she was both. I hope he was out of your life forever.

out for 32 yrs till i broke down and let him get back acquainted with his and my daughter. he was older , had changed , gotten a lot of therapy and i felt i should not keep them from knowing each other. even though i had nothing to do with him when he visited in spite of his apologies . found him for her through his social security number

no back then it was hard to prove things without going to court and getting witnesses. anyway, he got away and left town. this was early '70's and i took the kids and stayed at my aunts till i got another apartment in hopes he would not find us. long story about that.

I just saw this on a sidebar of another post and I agree that nosy old ladies can definitely do a lot of good. I'm so glad you had one in your life at that time!! "Love" leads us to make some really stupid choices and I'm glad yours was not deadly. I truly belief that love is a form of insanity and the lucky ones find themselves with nice people that they enjoy after the chemistry and brain fog go away.

I am so glad that this lady came to your help. You are right. Had she not been here there I can't imagine what your abusive husband could have done. I think it is better not to judge anyone.

Yes sometimes nosy people can save your life I agree Brandy. So sorry to know you suffered that too. I can only wish someone would have been calling for me plenty of times, but in the big city downtown, no one stuck their nose in. You did look happy in that photo..but I know it was not happy to say the least.

yes its funny how people (a man) can look so normal and hold such bad secrets. this was in a big city also with many apartment buildings near ours. in fact the old lady lived upstairs near ours

So many do seem to just be annoying neighbors, but might come to the rescue like your neighbor did @bunnybon7 You have no doubt seen the joke of Facebook with older people sitting by their windows looking over the neighborhood with a tagline about the neighborhood watch.
