I Finally Pulled It Out

About a month ago I posted that I was bound and determined that I was not going to pull my portable air conditioner out. Even though it was a fairly hot day I knew the next day was going to be about twenty degrees cooler. And there was no string of hot days forecasted another twenty days. That is when I planned to drag out my air conditioner. Fast forward to June 20th. The day I determined to get the air conditioner out. It wasn’t an extremely hot day but the day before was hot so I wanted to cool the house down. Then we had a few days where it was cool enough I did run the air conditioner. But the last two days has heated up. Today it’s supposed to get up to ninety-two degrees Fahrenheit (33.3º C). After tomorrow it’s supposed to cool down and remain around eight degrees (26.6º C) for the rest of the week. Right now there is a slight breeze and it’s partly cloudy with a temperature of eighty-six degrees (30º C). I can’t complain about the heat when there are temperatures of 125 degrees (51.6º C) in places.

I was determined not to turn on the AC (we have central air) and we usually do ok if the windows are open at night through early morning. The new insulation and attic fan has helped a lot too. But this summer my daughter got 2 parakeets . . . so we can't really have it anywhere past 85 degrees in here anymore. We have the AC to go off at 85 - it's at least not on constantly all day.

@RichardMeister . Yah, but we're trying to acclimate the birds to warm temps though of course we keep an eye on them and won't let them suffer. Fish are even more sensitive to temperatures - they would never make it in our house (as we learned ) unless we get temp controls for the water - and that's not cheap!

@much2say Nothing's cheap anymore. Your daughter needs to teach the birds to say, "Too hot, too hot."

We started using the air conditioner in our bedroom much earlier than I wanted to, but you have to be cool to sleep. We have heavy drapes so it is dark enough to sleep, so there is literally no breeze. I have four air conditioners but at this time it is the only one I use.

My house is small and well insulated so my one air conditioner does a pretty good job of keeping the place cool until it starts getting close to 100º. I thought about buying another one but haven't.

Living in the country, not to far from the sea - we get a lot of sea breeze which helps to cool things down. That is one of the reasons why I am happy about leaving the city.

I grew up in the country but not by the sea. We used to sleep outside in the summer.
