Invasion of the Flies

It began on Friday, I noticed there were a lot of flies in my dining room which has brand new windows. We couldn't figure out how the flies got in and why.
We did figure out that if the windows were not locked, there was a tiny gap where they might have gotten in. We got out the fly swatters and I went to the hardware store and bought some raid spray. We killed hundreds it seemed like. I had to go and vacuum the window sills and the floor.
They did get into the kitchen and the upstairs bathroom. We spent the ensuing days whacking the crap out of them. This morning, we seem to be almost fly free. There are still a few but hopefully, we will get the rest of them today.
After the previous invasion of the caterpillars, I am wondering if the weather this year is the issue? We have never been attacked like this in all the years we have lived here.

No I was quite surprised but to seal the screens and the window it seems to be the case.

We have less flies than normal - now I know why - they are all at your house. We have flies outside but they don't get in the house.

That is the frustrating part, I am not sure really how they got in. But anyway it is over now

@BelleStarr ......We went up to the World Center for Birds of Prey once and when we came out a whole swarm of flies had congregated on the hood of the car. Many, many of them. Freaked us out. Seeing one or two is one thing but an entire horde of them is another.

@BelleStarr Yes. I had success getting rid of fruit flies this way as they went for the vinegar and drowned.

Oh wow. It sounds like the gap is to blame. There are certain little gnats here that seem to be able to come in right through the screen. I keep my windows closed in the summer in the evening if my light is on, because they will come right in and bite my ankles!.

I have seen those little gnats down at our cottage between the screens and the window, they are so small they can go right through.

Fly strips help catch the flies and other flying insects.

I thought about that but all the ones they had on Amazon had terrible ratings.

Yikes! That must have been awful for you! Be sure to wash away that nasty Raid. I keep it for 8-legged creatures if my husband isn't home. Doodles has proven his worth with critters sneaking into my house. Btw, congratulations again on the marriage of your granddaughter!

Yes I do think that bees are worse or wasps. I don't like bugs at all.

My cat likes to circle bugs and take her time, but, me I am not patient enough with bugs and want them gone. I hate the ants in the summer.

I have dogs which is why I am not keen to use the spray, I am sure it is not good for the dogs.

The fact that it happened overnight is what freaked me out, it was no flies one day and 100 the next. They are all gone now but I am still shaken by the whole thing.

Yes and it's funny, I have sat on the deck in the evening and not been bothered by mosquitos so they are not a big issue here this year.
