Doctor Appointment This Morning

United States
July 26, 2017 11:05am CST
It's afternoon and I'm finally getting settled after my doctors visit this morning. It didn't go as bad as I had expected but it certainly didn't go well either. My cholesterol came down just a little bit so it's going in the right direction but the doctor wants me to take medication for it. I'm resigned to the medication as I certainly don't want to have a stroke or heart attack. So, my goal is to get my numbers in normal range so I can get off the meds. I gained a few pounds which upset me more than my cholesterol numbers. The winter months weren't kind to me and the scale has been creeping up. I have low Vitamin D and B12 so now I have to take these vitamins daily. My thyroid meds need increasing too so this afternoon I'll be picking up a whole bunch of new prescriptions at the pharmacy. UGH It could be worse and everything is controllable. So, my new goal is to get my health back on track and see an improvement on my next visit which is in 3 months. Not the way I wanted to start my day but I'm keeping a positive frame of mind and not letting it sidetrack me from being happy today. So what's happening in your little corner of the myLot world?

I hope you can get off the medicine and your numbers will be lower next visit! =) Enjoy your day. I have a hectic day but that's to be expected right now though.

@Marilynda1225 Yeah they are keeping me pretty busy but I come here when the babies are napping. =) That's when I take a break from packing too.

I'm sure you're busy getting ready to move and packing. Between that and taking care of the kids I doubt you have much down time

I'm on daily Vitamin D too. Glad your cholesterol came down. I'm sure you can get those pounds off. I'm working on that myself, but the scale was unfriendly this morning with a gain of three pounds. It went in the opposite direction and I've been eating right. Good you're keeping a positive frame of mind. That will help improve everything.

I found it weird that I have low Vitamin D but I guess a lot of people do these days. The scale isn't my friend either but I have to keep a positive frame of mind otherwise I'd probably do more damage

@just4him I'm happy to hear that your Vit D has improved. I am very low and have to take a prescription now every day and I'm hoping to see improvement when I go back to the doctor in 3 mos. I guess I need to spend more time outdoors and enjoy getting some Vit D the natural way.

@Marilynda1225 I know I was severely low because I worked in a place that was devoid of windows, and I didn't get outside at all when I was off work. I spent it on the computer. When I had the first blood test come back about my Vitamin D results, I didn't have any in my system and I was on a very high dosage for many years to get it back in me. Now I'm on a lower daily tablet and no longer prescription strength. I'm also trying to get out more.

I have never had high cholesterol but I did have a stroke. Strokes are brought on by different things. I have to take heavy doses of Vit. D by prescription.

I hope the meds keep you healthy. I'm fortunate enough not to need any at all - I rarely visit a doctor.

That used to be too Janet and then whamo I started having high blood pressure and it went on from there. You're so lucky that you're in good health and don't need to see the doctor

these things takes time. You have to work at it day by day. Once you start losing weight the cholesterol will come down slowly. Good luck there

It stinks getting "old" and having to deal with all these issues. I'm sure the cholesterol will come down as the pounds disappear. Thanks for your good wishes

Did your doctor mention Niacin? It's a supplement my doctor recommended to me so even though I still have to take cholesterol medicine it keeps me from having to take as much. I went to the doctor this morning too. I was ecstatic that I had lost two pounds. You're right about it being hard to keep weight off, especially after the winter months.

@Marilynda1225 It's tough to keep anything off in winter.

No, my doctor didn't say anything about Niacin. Good for you losing two pounds. I had a very lazy winter and packed on more pounds than I thought.

Yes @snowy it could have been much worse and the doctor is so nice. He didn't harp on anything negative and was very encouraging. I dont' have to go back until Oct so I'm hoping for some better numbers

The most important thing is that everything is controllable. So I hope that you just need some time and soon your heath will be back on track so you don't have to take a bunch of medications. My hubby is down with pneumonia so I am taking care of him and letting him sleep it off as I work on my PC.

I am thinking about going to work this evening but I will need to see if Tony feels like it because he would have to drive me in his truck so I can haul everything.

Guess many people are deficient in Vit D and B12. Since you live in California I would think you'd have plenty of Vit D with all that sunshine.

You are so right to keep a positive attitude. At least you're on the right track. You know what you need to do to be healthier. Many of us don't recognize the truth even when the doctor tells us.

I hate going to the doctor but I know it's necessary. Luckily I found a doctor who is awesome and he is ready to offer help and solutions rather than point a finger and be judgmental. I'm ready to kick myself in the butt and pay attention to my health

@Marilynda1225 It's good you found the right doctor. I'm lucky that I have good doctors and can trust them. But I don't mind asking questions and I don't always agree.

@Marilynda1225 the thing is that my cholesterol was not even high when I had my heart attack. That is why the symptoms were overlooked for so long because I didn't have anything signs typical of a heart attack.

Oh, you were worried about the cholesterol numbers before learning of the results today, weren't you? Glad it's not as bad as you had expected. It should be much improved by your next check up.

Yes I was worried that my numbers wouldn't be good as I know I wasn't as good working on getting it down as I should have been. Actually I expected it to be worse so I came out feeling better

@Marilynda1225 Yes it has been, it actually started back in 2010 and I was tested then for carpel tunnel, and was prescribed a brace-which never helped.

It is something that is controllable, you know what you must do. I am struggling to Mylot, this evening the internet isn't going off quite as often as during the day.
