Read This If You Want To Be Motivated

Do You Take a “Monthly Inventory?” I read something this morning, that I had saved from one of my training seminars. As a Division Manager with the jewelry company I worked for, I was often called on to speak at our annual Convention and annual Rally. I would always speak about doing a monthly evaluation on what we actually accomplished each month toward the goals we set for ourselves. I reminded the listeners not to focus on what they didn’t get done, because unmet expectations can cause disappointment and discouragement and dampen our desire to succeed. I would give each person a blank sheet of paper and we would complete an exercise that would highlight accomplishments, no matter how small. Then, we would focus on the things for which we were thankful. The exercise was actually completed as I spoke. I would say: “OK, now take 5 minutes and write down anything that you have seen or heard at your monthly TEAM meetings that has helped you with your goals.” And while they pondered on that subject and wrote things down, I would remind them of things that I had seen and heard. Of course, I had prepared my lists in advance. Then I asked them to take a few minutes and write down anything that they had learned recently that had boosted their sales or recruiting efforts. Again, I would tell them about things that I had learned over the years. Other categories included the things they had actually DONE that had gotten them closer to their goals. Also, they listed some things that they had STARTED to do and things that they had FINISHED as well as things that they had decided to do in the future and anything that they had experienced that had enhanced their determination to move forward with their business. Direct sales requires a TON of self-motivation. Since you have no BOSS or Time Clock, you have to BE your own Boss and set your OWN hours to work, based on your lifestyle. I raised five children, while successfully running my jewelry business from home. It took a LOT of determination and self-motivation. One of my motivations was always the FREE trips I could earn and of course, while working toward that goal, I also earned a good paycheck. I earned over 30 all-expense paid trips to many different countries and places in the U.S. too. Places that I would have never been able to afford to go, if I had not worked hard to accomplish my goals. Whether you have a home business or not though, you can use this same strategy to enhance your life accomplishments. Always consider ways to improve your situation in life and then make positive efforts to work toward your goals. Things won’t change unless you MAKE them change. Don’t settle for what you have if you desire more out of life. Be determined to change things that can be changed. Think positive and ask yourself. What are you looking forward to in the future and then work toward reaching whatever goals you set for yourself. At the end of each month, you need to evaluate what you were able to accomplish toward your goals. Keep a journal and write down what you want to accomplish each month and then at the end of the month, write down what you actually did accomplish and what you will do next month. IF you don’t set goals for yourself, you will simply drift along in life with no positive direction and that will lead you nowhere. One of my free trips was to Bermuda. See photo

I think that is a great idea honestly. It makes us feel like we are not spinning our wheels.

A person needs to PLAN for where they want to be in the future. It's important to stay motivated and the only way a person can do that is to set goals and then work toward reaching each goal so that they can see the progress that they are making.

This sounds like good advice and needed today as I seem to be procrastinating and lacking in goals for my writing.

Write down some goals you want to reach. Then, do something EVERY SINGLE DAY that will get you close to your goal. If you are hoping to write a NOVEL or some other project, you must BEGIN and then every day set aside some time to work on your project. It's been said that if you write just two or three pages per day, that you can complete a novel in 6 months or less. Now with a computer and Microsoft Word, you can write something every day and save it. Read it the next day and edit it. Change it if needed, add to it, correct grammar and spelling and move forward. I published my first novel just over a year ago. Now I have the first three chapters of my second novel finished. I try to work on it, if not every day, at least a few times a week. I'm making good progress. I'm working on my memoirs also for my children and grandchildren and I finally got all my poetry ready to publish.

That is a very good idea, writing down what we have accomplished in a month. I think I will take that advice on a daily basis, too. I often feel discouraged and like I haven't made any progress or done anything to improve my life. While I know it is probably not true I think I can prove it to myself by writing things down. Right now I have a lot of negative things happening in my life, things I can't control. I'll take your advice at least on a weekly basis and I'm sure things will look better.

Yes, it's important to see progress in your life. We all suffer from negative things happening in our lives, but our negative thoughts can be eliminated if we replace them with positive actions.
