Would you date or marry someone 20 years younger or older than you?

I know people do it and some successfully, I know people say age is just a number, but you just have a lot more in common with someone in your same approximate age group. I would have serious reservations about it personally. What about you? ALso, I think it partly depends on the age of the couple.

When I was in my early 30's I dated a guy who was 8 years younger - or may 9 or 10...I lost track....anyway, it was not a good match - we lived in different worlds for many reasons!

That's minor, compared to 20!

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, one time when I was in my 30's and was divorced with a child..I briefly dated a guy who was 25...that told me he had never kissed a girl.....I was like say what?? Needless to say, it didn't last.

@snowy22315 It's all relative. He acted like a child and I had been married 10 years and divorced.

I am single and plan to stay that way, just getting that out there Currently I work in a hotel with a lot of very attractive women Many/most are 20 years younger than me and although they are extremely physically attractive I have very little in common with them ( we do have a good laugh at work and I love them but I'm meaning on a deeper level) and wouldn't want them as a girlfriend...and they certainly wouldn't want me

@andriaperry that's true there is one girl I really like but it won't ever happen Even with her I think she's an amazing person and really beautiful but with over 16 year age gap we have little in common in many ways. Also she has a daughter and I'm not parental material

I do have a friend who married a guy who was 22 years old than herself . . . she is apparently very happy. She was already out of child bearing age at the time and he was pretty well off . . . it still works out for them. Me personally, I'd rather my age (like Hubby) or older.

My husband is younger than I am... but not by that much. Oddly enough, it works lol! Twenty years... I guess that it would depend on the couple. Now at my age, that would mean marrying someone in their 80s... hmmm. I guess that it would still depend.

Unless the guy looked 15 years younger than his stated age I wouldn't be for it Yeah, it would be an almos 80 year old same age as my dad...most likely no way!

20 years seems to be a big gap in what a couple would have in common but I guess age doesn't matter when love enters the picture

For a wealthy male (who wants a younger partner), why not? Similar I guess to getting a pet.

@snowy22315 ah, like Elizabeth Taylor in her later years? Hmm... well, she needed some sort of pets too, didn't she? (and she could afford those young guys.)

People say age is just a number. This turned into a slogan for paedophiles. I agree with you, it's nice to have a lot in common with your partner, and that usually happens if you're peers. There are men who are 20+ years older than me who I find to be attractive, but remaining down to earth, I'll have to take care of my parents (I'm their only child), I don't need an extra one. Someone 20 years younger than me would be 1, turning 2 in November. So nope, no way.

I have known people who married someone 25 years younger, the marriage did not last. When you are still young it seems that it's not a problem, but when one of the two is around 60 and the other only 40 the problems start.

I wouldn't do it. But my son met a young woman who is half his age. He's 44 and she's 22. So there's 20 years between them. She's a wonderful young woman.

Well right now I am one red hot sexy piece of meat for some 72 year old man! But no. I cannot stomach the thoughts of sleeping with a 72 year old man. I would not date anyone 5 years younger nor 10 years older than me. Now my sister she likes that old stuff, always has. My dad hated that about her.

It depends on MY age too. If I am 50 I'm ok to marry a 20 yrs older man than me. But if I am only 18-20's I guess I'd prefer a man not older than 30. I am not a nurse/caregiver to marry an old man. I saw some young Asian women who marry an almost 90 yr old guy. I find it very "cheap" and I doubt if love is there just like a very beautiful woman marrying a very ugly man I automatically think maybe the guy is rich and they marry because of money/comfort not love. And if I were a 70 yr old and above GUY with monthly pension I'd marry a younger poor woman so if I die she could receive my pension. I am generous.

Depends, if i would find a super compatibility, may be i would. But it has to be such strong and convincing that age difference wouldn't matter at all.

No man is perfect and every master was once a kid. An older person would have more experience and still some weak sides. So still, it's not an all in all solution
