TOO CAUGHT UP.

Have you ever become so caught up or immersed in a soap opera or other television series, that you forget those actors are simply playing roles - and in real life their character could be completely different from the one they play on the show.? Now , imagine if you met an actor or actress face to face - one who plays a bad guy role on your favorite soap - how would you react? Would you verbally abuse him/her - or show some love?
Verbal attacks was the norm for actress Joan Collins during the period 1981 - 1989 when the popular television series "Dynasty" was aired. Collins played the role of the catty ex-wife of Blake Carrington ( John Forsythe) - and was often accosted when recognized in public.
Hard to believe that some soap fans get so caught up and carried away, they forget these actors are simply acting a role. Of course , there are exceptions - like Charlie Sheen in "Two and a Half Men " - his character on the show is similar to his real life one.

Yes. We often get lost in the acting scene and everything the actors do starts affecting us. I always remind myself that it is just an act.

Yes,that usually happens with people. But thankfully I never confuse a real person with the character they play.

I doubt that would happen to me.
Most of the time the series or soap operas are dubbed in my native language, so I would realize they're a different person because their voice doesn't match the whole picture I have of a character.
I might just say "hey donkeyhole" in a jokingly manner.

I've never met an actor or actress but have become attached to many through their tv series. I doubt I'd verbally abuse a famous person if I met them and they were a villain. Guess for some people it's hard to separate a role from real life

Some people have a hard time distinguishing reality from make-believe.

I've read about that happening to certain actors. I think of Linda Blair who was in "The Exorcist" . . . she did such a convincing job of being possessed that she was definitely recognizable in the street and people would be afraid of her. I can separate movie from real life . . . but I do admit seeing her photos throughout my life scared me (or conjured up memories of the movie anyway) - though I should know better.

Yes, I remember the character she played. I really hated the character but I would never confuse the actress with the character.

I always thought that was so strange. People who live in a world where soap characters are "real" must have some deep seated problems with reality.

I feel sometimes feel sorry for those who are continually cast as 'the villain'. I'm sure many begin to think they are a bit like that in real life.
