Back to Basic

When Nokia decide to revive 3310 this year, a lot of people in this country were really waiting for it to be released. When it was launched, it was sold out in stores in just a day! It's funny isn't it? We have smart phones these days with the best functions and yet people in my country seem to want to go back to basic. This phone costs Php3,499 or that's roughly around $70. It's so cheap I bought two. When I posted it on Instagram, my high school buddy asked where I got it as she wants to have one too! I use it as a backup phone because the battery could last for days and only my family knows my phone number. Do you still remember the classic Nokia 3310? And did you used to have that phone?

Yes, I have 2 of them before and I can tell Nokia phones are very durable. Actually, I still have mine but it's not working because of the battery. I'm planning to buy one day.

Yeah Nokia were durable. Back when texting was new and exclusive for globe users only since smart was still on analogue, I was a Nokia fan back then. Then when colored phones came out, it was Ericsson who released it first and I switched. Never went back to Nokia until now.

@toniganzon Yes, it was a big hit here in our country. I remember too that it was globe dominating the services. And I still remember my Globe digits. I had Phillips for my colored phone.

@toniganzon And now most of the services are with pay. Technology is. You said you bought it for 3K plus right? My cousin offered me the same model for 1,500 pesos?

I find one phone more than enough but then I'm not one to be on the phone much anymore. I have a Samsung Galaxy S 3 mini.

That's a smartphone. I'm using an iPhone 7+ as my main phone. I'm actually an apple user for a long time now. Using this Nokia as my back up phone.

My mom likes the older phone styles because the battery lasts for over a week! Now she has to charge her phone daily. Nokia was the brand of phones I had back in the day before the smartphone!

Nokia was also one of the brands I liked before the colored phones came. When the colored phones with camera was launched, it was Ericsson who released it first. I switched to Ericsson and never went back to Nokia again until now lol!

I still have a basic cellphone, it's not from Nokia, it's from Samsung, it's the one that I bring with me in my handbag all the time. I love the fact that it does nothing else than make calls and send text messages, the battery lasts for 15 days.

The battery is what I'm really after for. I can't text on this phone as I find it so difficult now. I'm so used with the touch screen and qwerty keyboard.

@toniganzon I do not need to text a lot, it's just in case of emergency. Those small phones are practical to keep in a handbag.

OMG, although I use the smart phones from the first time, I do really miss the basic one. I would rather buy one clamshell phone! I think that's really cool.

I remember that model although I didn't have one when it first came out. It is indeed a good back up phone. I have a back up phone myself but it isn't a Nokia 3310.

OH wow. It was your first phone. Nokia was also very popular in India. My first Nokia was a 6150 but that was years before the 3310 came out.

Yes of course. Nokia 3310 was my first phone ever. I think one of the reasons for the huge sales of Nokia 3310 today is the nostalgia and memories that people have on the phone. I was so eager to also buy one when I knew that Nokia will be releasing the model but I end up not buying because they changed a lot on the phone. I believe they made it colored with camera. I was expecting the same Nokia 3310 as before. I want exactly the same old Nokia 3310. haha.

@maximaoliveros I used to do the same. 5110 was the very first Nokia phone that was released and it had graphics. I didn't get that as I waited for a high end model the 6150. They were the Nokia with antenna. Then they released 3210, the very first with internal antenna. Those were the Nokia days in the 90s.

There are some shops that sell the classic one. It's refurbished. I prefer the new one though because of the size. The old classic one was thick and a bit heavy. The new version is very slim and since it's just a backup phone, I don't use it for texting at all. I find it too difficult lol!

@toniganzon but during the old days. I can text very fast in my Nokia 3310 without even looking at the keypad. I had a lot of memories with my old phone. And I miss the "drop call". everytime I remember it, I laugh alone.

My first phone was a Motorola then I changed to Nokia 6150, then to Ericsson when they released their first colored phones, then Samsung, Blackberry, iPhones ever since. I changed my phone quite frequently I think lol! Especially with the iPhones. I get the new ones each time.

I did own one of those. Very basic, but isn't that all we needed back then? That is also what a cell phone was originally designed for. Just to be a back-up phone in case of emergencies.

I remember having one of this phone before. I guess most of the staff of that courier company where I was working with as a technical support have the same phone model. When the revival was announced, I thought of having one but unfortunately I wasn't able to get mine as they said, it's already sold out when I finally decided I will buy .

That yellow color threw me a bit. I have always used Nokia phones for almost 2 decades now, guess I had one (but in black or dark grey color). The charger didn't work too well so I stopped using it.
