I looked at all of the lovely flowers and plants at the zoo this Saturday and appreciated the fact that they had been growing for months. They are at their peak right now. As you can see in this photo, the butterflies, as well as other insects and birds really appreciated the chance to stock up on nectar and pollen. I am so glad we went to enjoy this outdoor adventure at this time of year.

Soon the only flowers we have to look at will be pansies. Pansies are pretty but they can get boring.

@GardenGerty Yes, I had chrysanthemums in my yard but we don't have them in the complex.

When out fetching the mail yesterday I glanced over at our garden and noticed how lovely the flowers looked. It's been a weird summer but because we had rain of some degree almost every day for a month/month and a half, we didn't have to water the flowers. They have thrived naturally and do look rather beautiful. The trees, however, have not fared as well. They're looking pretty ugly.

Just enough water, it seems for the flowers. Are your trees losing leaves already?

@GardenGerty Not so much losing leaves as there is a lot of brown ends I never noticed in previous years on our cedars. I've attached a photo. Not sure how well you can see it.

I was just telling our younger son the same thing this afternoon when he popped over. The flowers never looked so good, and the bees and butterflies seemed quite busy. I'm happy you enjoyed your trip to the zoo.

It definitely is. I know that they must have some big greenhouses somewhere for all the fine potted plants that have to be taken in. I imagine they start seeds all winter for the annuals.

@just4him We will definitely go back soon. Did you know Emporia, Kansas has an awesome Veteran's Park, too? It is right by the zoo and I will have pictures from my next visit.

We have not gone as much this year, so far. Maybe in October. Or maybe I will go to a pumpkin patch.

Nature paints beautiful pictures with reds and oranges in the leaves. I find that there is something beautiful in every season.

I think nature enjoys when things happen as they should. Flowers bloom, insects feed, and pollinate. Seeds fall and then we have more flowers to bloom.

Despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma in Florida, we can be thankful that the rotation of the storm sucked cool, dry air down from the north and gave us a brief respite from our heat and humidity. So, even though we are dealing with a lot of damage and destruction, and many people are without power, the days and nights in the aftermath of the storm have been absolutely beautiful, making it feel like Fall is already here. It will only last a couple of days before it gets hot again, but for that brief moment is sure does feel good to get outside and enjoy the outdoors again!

Yes, there are people that look forward to fall because they can see all the pretty colors on the trees and it looks so decorative out. Me, I love spring and summer so I can sit with the sun beating down on me on our porch.

@GardenGerty Heather, when does it start to get chilly where you are? We have nice weather up to about November or December and then the rain comes and winter is here. We only get rain here in the winter so we need lots of it.

Two of my favorites! I have stonecrop in my garden and it is starting to turn colors now. Sadly I have only seen a few butterflies this year. My favorite is the Monarch and I have only seen one. I stopped in my tracks to watch it flutter along.
