I never knew this day existed. But this is really the need of the hour. Every year, the World Water Monitoring Day is celebrated on September 18. The day was first instituted in the year 2003 to build public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the world. The day aims to empower the citizens to conduct basic checking of their local water bodies. Water is a very precious commodity and also the basis of food and life. Conserving water should be a way of life and not something we think about once in 365 days. Every one of us depends on water, it should be one of our responsibility to conserve water in every way we can. Source: http://indiatoday.intoday.in

I didn't know that either. I use very little water beings it is just me here and I don't have a lawn to water.

@vsai2008 There is no grass at all on this property. The landlords know what they are doing by having no grass here. I see a lot of people waste water and that is sad.

@velvet53 Having grass is good to some extent, it prevents topsoil erosion but wasting water because of it should be minimised :)

We have an abundance of water here, we even had floods this spring because of too much water. I know, it is not the same everywhere and we should all be concerned.

yes, we need to be concerned about the scarcity of water, rivers are drying up in our area, so awareness is a bit important in our part of the world

I haven't heard of it, but we've been conserving since the hurricane hit last week. The river is at a high point and afraid of it backing up and over flowing.

We won't survive with out water, that's why we need to conserve and not waste it. We don't have technology to get water from space or make one.

And here we have been having rain every day for the last 6 months. We all think of either learning to swim or purchase a boat each.

Sounds like a very good idea, if everyone conserves, all will have the water that they need with the exception of those in drought areas.

When I read about it, I found that it is a global educational outreach program, so I guess it is for public awareness

This is a laudable program because scarcity if water seems inevitable, monitoring of our potable water is just important
