Holy Buckets Of Cold Water, Batman!

We broke a record here in Spokane. Eighty days in a row with no measurable rain. The old record of seventy-two days was set in 1917. But now–holy buckets of cold water, Batman! After all the dry weather we had, the heavens just opened up. I went to the store yesterday and when I got home rain poured out of the sky. I ran from my car to the house. About ten steps. The rain soaked me to my bone. And, of course, even though we almost broke a record for the most days of ninety degrees Fahrenheit (32º C) or above, it suddenly turned cold. Right now it’s forty-five degrees (7º C). Not winter cold, but cold for being soaking wet. And it’s still raining. The seasons here have been changing fast. What I mean is it was cold this spring and just turn hot a couple of days before summer and stayed hot all summer. Now tomorrow will be the first day of autumn and it just turn cold a few days ago. Before the turn in temperature it was in the eighties (27º to 30º C). Then, bam, down to forty-five degrees. Just like that. I would rather it dumped buckets of water than buckets of snow. Speaking of snow, it snowed in the mountains of Montana which is helping put out the forest fires. And this rain and cooler weather is helping the firefighters in the state of Washington. So I shouldn’t be complaining about getting a bit wet. I just wasn’t prepared for it to go from dry and hot to cold and wet. Now the sun is trying to shine.

@RichardMeister Just like that - where did all that rain come from? It's a bit colder here too - started just a couple days ago. It's not only cooler, but actually colder, though no rain. It actually feels like autumn here, and it's not supposed to (we're almost always in summer mode in September - even through October). Glad that the weather has helped the fires over yonder . . . a bit of rain is what saved the fire out here too. The sun is in and out today - but it's not a warm day.

Our average temp at this time of the year is 70º not 45º. It's forecasted to warm up to the mid=70s this week. It's through raining at least for a while.

@RichardMeister That's quite a difference. Here it seems like we're on the mark with averages for the most part. It's not cool/cold anymore . . . we rose back up to 90s - and apparently it will be this way or at least minimally mid 80s for the rest of the week. Still no rain in sight.

@much2say Yesterday is supposed to be our last 70º day. This week it's not supposed to get any hotter than the low 60s and high 50s. Right now it's 60º.

This is just crazy weather this year. It's been raining since Sunday here and we had a doozy of a storm yesterday with a tornado touching down just 30 minutes away. In Oregon! I'm loving it though. We've needed it and the smoke is now clear and hopefully the rest of the fires will be out soon.

We went 80 days without any rain. But they are saying it's been one of the wettest "water year" on record. A water year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. We had near record breaking rain in Oct. Then near record breaking snowfall durning the winter. The last few days has been very rainy. There was also a funnel cloud spotted. We have had tornados touch down here in eastern Washington but they did very little damage.

Very unpredictable weather this year, I must say.

The summer wasn't bad here. Even though we had several day of 90º and above I can't recall any days that went over 100º. Here would be my ideal climate–every day between 70º (21º C) and 80º (26º C) until 2 weeks before Christmas. Then it should turn cold and snow. After New Year's Day it warms up and all the snow melts and we are up to my ideal temperatures until the next Christmas.
