Glass Castle

The Glass Castle came in today. I ordered it from the library a month ago and they called to say it was ready for pickup this afternoon. I've read a couple of dozen pages and am already horrified at how the author, Jeannette Walls, and her siblings were raised. These poor little children were dragged around like little animals from pillow to post. I read Jeannette Walls story, Half Broke Horses, about her grandmother who carried a heavy load on her shoulders and overcame many hardships but I thought her granddaughter would have a better upbringing . How wrong I was. I'm getting ready now to get in bed and read more.

I've yet to see a movie that held a candle to the book. How was the movie?

@sallypup It is, those kids had an awful time but shameful as the parents were they were highly intelligent And taught the children better than children learn in school.

@RubyHawk - When I read about the lives of many people, it makes my worst day seem like a vacation. Some people have had to endure such horrible experiences.

@RubyHawk - Yes, even on bad days, our lives could be worse. Look at what happened in Las Vegas, today. We go there two or three times a year. My daughers and granddaughters also go there for concerts. I'm so lucky no one in our family was at that concert.

@DeborahDiane Thankfully none of you were in Las Vegas. What a horrible happening. It's still hard to believe.

That's true, it's good for us to read about the troubles of other people to make us appreciate what we have. Even on our bad days it could be worse.

I wish I could get wrapped up in a book again. Seems there are so few hours in a day and I have so much to do in those few hours. The book sounds like it would hold my interest from beginning to end. Enjoy.

I've never read any of Jeannette Walls books, they sound very exciting:) I added a photo of our old cabinets, so you could see them:) The wall is torn off, they are redoing all the wiring.

How I wish I have many extra time to read books too. Perhaps when I retire, I will be able to read a lot of books in my nephew's room waiting for me to read them, when I inspected all of them one time when I went to my parents' house.

Those kinds of stories make you wonder what kind of people would do those kinds of things to their children. I've read a couple books like that and it always makes me angry at the adult who treats their child(ren) in such a manner and pray that something will be done for the child(ren) to get them away from such circumstances.
