Please Don't Tell My Daughter I Said This But...

Last night we went to my oldest daughters house for her birthday dinner and cake. We always have a good time at my daughters house but this is one thing I have to share with you....she has the most uncomfortable furniture in the world. There isn't a place in the house where I can sit and be comfortable. Her kitchen chairs are hard and my butt always hurts and for some reason we all seem to congregate in the kitchen. If we move into the living room her couch is the opposite. It's too soft and the love seat rocks which makes it hard to get up and down. Now if the situation is reversed she might say the same thing about my house but I doubt it. I have a sofa and love seat and both recline which makes for comfort (plus they are electric recliners so you don't have to do more than push a button). Also I have a nice rocker for those who don't wish to sit on either the love seat or sofa. My daughter is always talking about wanting to get a new living room set but something always comes up and she never has the money for such an expense. I wish I had plenty of extra money to take her out and buy the new set for her but I'd have to pick it out (okay I'm just kidding about picking it out) Do you find yourself sitting on uncomfortable furniture when visiting or do you have that problem in your own house?

I have a comfortable love seat and couch. If I am not comfortable on it I wouldn't buy it. I know what you mean about to soft, if you are young and can get up from a soft couch it's fine. But us older folks sometimes can't get up.

I hate to admit my limitations as I age cause I always felt I'd be young forever. Yes getting up and down from something too soft is difficult for me but something rocks is even harder

Why don't you take a big cushion to your daughter's house and leave it there for your occasional visits?

My sister has uncomfortable furniture in her house. The only place she really has furniture is the living room..and that is OK, but the TV is located in a little den area..and there is no where to sit there but some hard chairs..?? Geez put some furniture in there.

I'm not saying everyone has to spend thousands on furniture but don't you wonder why your sister only has hard chairs in a room with the tv? do they not watch tv very often?

I stopped using my living room furniture for a long time. I needed something higher. I had a brilliant idea and had someone put some pieces of wood to make the furniture higher. It is awesome now.

Raising up the furniture sounds like a great idea. When I bought my house I had them put in higher toilets so my mom and I wouldn't have trouble getting up and down.

@Marilynda1225 I was having a bad time thinking that I´d have to buy new furniture until I came upon this brilliant idea. I have given the phone of the man the did the job to a couple of friends.

I don't do a lot of visiting but when I go to Carols I'm always comfortable no matter where I sit. At home I have a comfortable bed, otherwise the chair I am sitting in right now leaves a whole lot to be desired.

Thanks @Marilynda1225 but it's all my own fault, I opted for other things instead of a well made chair.

I guess a bed would take priority over a comfortable place to sit since a good nights sleep is a must. Sorry your chair leaves a lot to be desired

Our son's house has furniture like that too. We have a couch with push button recliners and our dining room chairs have a leather seat, and they are comfortable.

@Marilynda1225 I love these so much, they are supper comfortable aren't they? Ours has a little thing that we can pull if the power goes out to recline.

Aren't the push button recliners wonderful!! Mind are electric so they open and close with ease. Of course if the power goes out that's a whole new dilemma

@Marilynda1225 You are so right on this one. I just have a simple couch and love seat here for us because we don't soend a lot of time in our home. We are outside more.

That's a shame that your daughter's furniture is so uncomfortable for you. I've decorated enough homes over the years to know that one must sit in chairs and sofas before purchasing. I'm very happy with all our furniture. Each piece is extremely comfortable and even pretty to look at. lol

My daughter needs a new set desperately as it's beyond broken in (as they say). She can't afford it right now but I'm hoping they can get one soon. Not even for me but it must be uncomfortable for them too

My husband gets so comfortable, he falls asleep on our furniture! When your daughter gets new furniture, help her to find some, that offer comfort:)

I will definitely offer to get with her when she is looking for a new set. Of course I'll strategically offer my two cents on her choices

@Marilynda1225 That's a great idea, without telling her about the discomfort of the older set

Yes there isn't much we can do when we are visiting and can't find a seat that's very comfortable. That's why we have myLot..so we can complain

I always would sit in the most comfortable seat for me whenever I visit a friend's house. But if there are no comfortable chairs, I will just sit and bear it.

I agree and it would depend on who I was visiting. If it was a neighbor I definitely wouldn't complain and sit wherever the gathering was. Otherwise I do look for a seat that would be comfortable for me too

I don't have comfort issues with the furniture at my house and I hope my guests don't, as well But I had experience sitting on a couch that was too soft it made sink when I sat on it.

My grandma Campbell had the most uncomfortable furniture in the world. She had this antique loveseat that I think was more for looks and not for sitting...or perhaps in the olden days they made furniture uncomfortable to encourage visitors not to stay very long.

You might have hit on something about furniture not being comfortable so visitors dont' stay long. Maybe back in those days people didn't sit in front of the tv as much as we do

My parent house has those antiques sets, i feel like a princess sitting on those cause you cant slack nor lie down. Just sit straight for you hips not to hurt.
