How do they expect us to live

I always sit here and think that if food did not cost so much money or the cost of living being so high that people would not steal as much..all we live off is what my husband makes and what little money I make online and yes we are on food stamps..so people look down on us for that but sometime you need the help..but now they have cut are stamps in half and there is no way we can make them last all month now..so I know here soon we will be out of food and will have to do something for something to eat.

Because of the cost of food is why I am now going more and more of my own food. I have never looked down on anyone who gets food stamps.

That's good that you are growing your own food and canning or whatever it is that you do for food..and I'm glad that you don't look down on people that get food stamps.

You said what I was thinking! Im learning to garden and have planted some fruit producing trees for future harvest. Cooking from scratch and just trying to do the best. Its a lot cheaper! Schools should teach better life skills than they do.

Everything is going up, except for the paychecks and is expensive. It is ridiculous with the prices of food items. If you want to eat really good it is even worse in the prices. During the gardening season we do alright with vegetables as I have a nice size garden and we can. We also have chickens so have eggs. We do have rabbits that hubby wanted to use as meat however they have turned more into pets.. lol Anyways I have never looked down on anyone on Assistance. We actually got food stamps for a bit when hubby was out of work. Luckily he had a new job in 3 months but sometimes it isn't that easy and I know that.

I'm sorry. Sometimes the senior centers know of places to get food. It might sound weird but you could ask there.

Sorry to hear that. That isn't right. How do they expect people to survive. I never look down on anybody. I don't understand people that do.

@hillhjill I understand over there in your place,18 must have to live independently, but not all eighteen"s strong enough.and parents should still monitor what is going on with his eighteen years old plight. it does not mean if you areout ofthe house living independently all the love and care and a little bit of help will be cut off too. that is not the way here we keep in touch still we lend a hand..

In our country food stamps are given once in three month. They have to go to the post office to draw the fund.

They sent us a letter say that my husband makes to much in his ssi check and he only makes 580 a month so after bills we really don't have much to live off.

It is true that the cost of living is higher everywhere. I have had to learn to eat cheaper food tan what I did when my husband was alive.

And we do are best when it comes to eating cheap but we only have a couple of places to shop at and the meat is insane.

I don't care what others think about us needing help for food. Everyone is ONE paycheck away from needing the same help we do. Things happen and life is tough sometimes. Nothing to be ashamed of.

They said that is was because my husband makes 580 a month on ssi but we only have maybe 80 to live on after we pay the bills.

I know it and I don't understand why they can't bring the price down just a little..like Walmart I don't think they would lose anything to make stuff cheaper for people.

At some point you have to figure out why you don't have enough and break the cycle. It's tough. It really is. But one thing I always say is that we truly do live in the land of opportunity. It's there. It's right under your nose. You just have to look for it. Look, at the end of the day you have to ask yourself, "Even though I want time to live, if I could work two jobs, or three, or if I could find another way to make money, would my life not be better?" I just hate to see people stuck in these cycles, looking at their lives and their finances as a finite thing when the possibilities to earn more and have more are endless. I have spent my life looking for ways to not rely on a paycheck, learning very early on that what is more valuable is saving and investing and living off the proceeds of what I already made instead of what's coming next. You can do it. Even for those who live on disability checks. Come on. How disabled are you? You can build a camper but you can't greet people at Walmart? That's not being insensitive. That is just being real. If you can raise a hammer and drive a nail you can certainly make a few bucks saying "Hi, welcome to Walmart," and maybe even do some side jobs or something. Again, not trying to be insensitive or mean. Just trying to toss some reality your way. Some people's lives are the way they are by their own design. Get on with it, bust it out, and burst to the sky like a rocket!

@hillhjill Which is the conundrum these damn democrats have created for people like you who truly want to get ahead. They design these programs to keep people down and it irks the hell out of me. In fact, it pisses me off. A paycheck is always better than a handout. Always. In some ways I wish there was a way to make it easier for people to say "keep your damn check, I will be better off without it." And you know what? In the end you WOULD be better off without their check. But it's tough, like I said, and they MAKE it tough. Sometimes the short term struggle is worth the long term gain though, otherwise how the hell do you get OUT of it? You have to start somewhere. Tell them to go to hell and I bet you get ahead before you fall behind. Like I said, I just hate seeing people go through this. I really do.
