I like to think I am very open-minded about everything. Yes, I have my own special quirks, just like everyone else. But I have never found myself totally rejecting something science has done/is doing, before. I always feel there are two sides (or more) to everything. (I wouldn't be a true Libra if I didn't see both sides of things.) How about you? Have you ever read a discussion written by someone here that gives you the creeps/makes your mind shut down in horror? (No, I am not talking about rape/murder/any of the myriad things humans can and have done to each other because people are crazy. I am talking about "valid" scientific experiments... ) I came across one of those types of discussions a few days ago... I was disgusted/repelled by the very implications... *sigh!* I honestly don't expect very many people (if any) to respond to this discussion, but I felt the need to say "I am only human."

The only thing in the 'scientific' field that really makes me grind my teeth - or, really, makes me REALLY annoyed - is when someone posts something which is real rubbish and false 'scientific' information. To be honest, I tend to erase all memory of the things once my anger subsides (and, perhaps, after I have responded with a suitable snort) but an example of the sort of thing is "Why are there still apes if humans evolved from apes?".

Pseudo-scientific discussions tend to make me laugh. There was one recently about pyramids built by aliens under Antarctica. And, indeed, our governments do not want us to know. I quite never respond to these discussions.

I'm not trying to make you angry my dear friend but I've tried having a discussion with you on this and you don't seem to be very receptive. I'll translate that to proper English. I'm not trying have a go at you. Good, now I speak across the pond. I can't for the life of me understand what false information is when it comes to science. I suppose if it was documented observations completely falsified then that would certainly be classified as rubbish. But a question like the ape one i find an interesting one and could be responded to with some sound scientific reasoning? Assuming we have scientific fact under our belt though is a dangerous assumption. I'll give one example. Life requires oxygen. I was under that impression as were many other people/science community included until I read something. Apparently someone discovered a small cell that doesn't require it. Now that is a amazing. Don't you think so? Science is constantly changing it's ideas and we might want to actually consider everything as a possibility?

What comes to mind is a discussion about a remedy for cancer. I've forgotten what it was - or subconsciously suppressed it - but it was outrageous. The member hadn't tried it themselves but only read about it. Yet, they know that it works.

Aw..Malu...may be I came up with something then. I must have read something in the news somewhere and written about it. I am extremely interested in stem cell research which is for organ regeneration using the person's own stem cells and of course cancer cure. This comment I think was about US FDA having allowed some clinical trial to cure cancer in some way after it started showing some promising results in some European clinical trials.

Hmmm... a remedy for cancer that works but it disgusted you? (I think, as long as I didn't have to kill someone else, I'd be okay with that.) Granted, I find many things disgusting, but finding them disgusting doesn't mean I wouldn't do them/use them if I needed to, either.

@DaddyEvil I haven't used the word 'disgusted'. Where do you see it in my comment?Whether something is disgusting or not doesn't matter as long as it helps. But when someone tells the world to use, say, mistletoe to get rid of cancer, then this is a different pair of shoes.

"nothing different'? Then it is possible I have not made much of an impact on you, friend Sanjeev, if you can believe there is nothing different about me! The only thing really different about me is that I am, uniquely, me. I don't try to conform to everything people around me believe I should be and would resent anyone trying to change me. (I am growing on myself more and more the older I get. Maybe, by the time I reach 22 years old, I will be what others want to be... ) How are you doing? I haven't seen you in quite some time. @SIMPLYD Yes, scary and disturbing! I already know the doctors have never successfully done surgery like this before. Not even with animals. (They have attempted this surgery with animals but the animals always die. Usually during the surgery.) I don't believe humans are ready for something like this, in my opinion!

Okay... (grinning at you!) I believe I am a compassionate, caring, loving and lovable person. I can and do make an occasional mistake. I will accept the blame for my mistakes, too... I will not accept the blame when someone else has made a mistake, though. (Yes, that happened over a year ago here on myLot. Someone accused me of doing something wrong. Instead of asking me to explain, the person threw a big rant about it. When I tried to explain they were not understanding what I actually said, they became defensive and became even more adamant that the mistake was mine! I finally blocked that myLotter when they wanted to rant at me again because I told someone else about it!) My avatar is/was made from a photo of me. (I think DE is quite handsome! I wish I still looked that good!) If you ever find yourself doubting my humanity, tell me. I may have made another mistake! (Being very serious!)

:) @DaddyEvil that is really cool about your avatar on a serious note though I do understand the need to be hush hush over names and references for fear of causing a problem. That is a real fear. Plus if we bring to mind more of what we find upsetting it doesn't help us feel any better. Having mentioned this once is enough. I'll just say like anything it is a shame that science or anything really can't be a good thing in our world. It is really how we use what we have right?

@Bluedoll Thank you! Pretty made my avatar by taking a real picture of me and stretching the photo over one of her SIMS characters and then screenshotting him when he sat down. (She built our family and let them play out several times. She said... and I quote, "The life we have now is better than any of them came up with. I am happy with that.") Yep! I try not to remember that, but things bring it to mind quite often. I will do my best not to repeat it to you again.

Yes, Sol-cee, that is the discussion I was talking about. It creeped me out! What further bothered me was the fact that one of the same surgeons who will be operating in December has also claimed he successfully transplanted the head of one monkey onto the body of another. But then he claims he euthanized the two monkeys for ethical reasons 20 hours after the surgery was completed. Why would he do that? It seems to me that they would need to keep the monkeys alive to see if the head and body could be stabilized and neither rejected by the original head/body. (I don't believe they should have done the surgery at all, but since they had, they should have learned as much as they could instead of destroying the monkeys almost immediately. Yes, I am kind of a ghoul that way, but that means they will only do this to two more monkeys since they didn't learn everything they could while they were still alive. SMH!) We just aren't ready, mentally or ethically, for this type of surgery, in my opinion...

Hello Ruby! I didn't believe anyone would be interested in knowing what I found disgusting in another discussion here. There is no need to hide either the discussion or the author. (I write discussions like this once in a while, but this one really took off!) @Daljinder wrote about a surgical procedure set to take place this December. Doctors are preparing to transplant one man's head onto another person's body. The articles I read about this made it seem like they were just throwing out some old, useless furniture and replacing it with new furniture. It was the fact that a human body meant little or nothing to them that bothers me the most about this. I didn't directly disagree with the author since she was simply talking about the surgery, not condoning or arguing against it. She just ask our opinions about it. Thank you. I appreciate your concern here, but wish I had explained why I was bothered by the discussion. I didn't mean to bother/worry anyone.

Yes, I have had difficulty understanding what some of the members here are trying to tell us in their discussions. If I don't know the author very well, I will not respond to a discussion I am not sure about. (I do know the author on the discussion I am talking about here, so had no fear I wasn't understanding the topic under discussion.) My objection stems from the fact that doctors are planning on transplanting one man's head on another man's body in December of this year. Humans aren't ready for this type of thing, in my opinion. Doctors have not done enough research on this type of surgery, for one thing. Plus the morals and ethics of the situation need to be addressed and codified before the first surgery of this type is done, too, in my opinion... SMH!

@celticeagle I'm sorry, Celticeagle, but I can tell you that DJ does care very much about other people. She was not condoning the surgical procedure. She simply wrote about it and ask for our opinions. The articles (some of them) made it seem as if the original body was just useless old junk to discard at a whim. That is why I objected to the discussion.

Thank you, Celticeagle! I might have passed on this discussion had it been written by anyone else. I didn't pass because it was written by @Daljinder. I did try to avoid the subject because the link she gave for the article was broken... She "fixed" me by suggesting I look up articles on the same subject. I did look up several, gave her a link to one very like the original (which I accessed thru The Wayback Machine) for her discussion. I "wasted" my time for a friend. I would do the same for others on myLot that I have grown to like.

Transplanting one person's head on another person's body. (That seems a bit too far out in la-la land for me. Maybe in a few hundred years or so, but it shouldn't be tried now. Scientists have only gotten one mouse to live for a few minutes after transplanting it's head onto another mouse's body. There needs to be a LOT more research and testing before this is attempted with humans, in my opinion.)
