I’ve been Scott Ganschow (teamfreak16)to write a series featuring Australian bands and tonight I heard that George Redburn Young died yesterday. Born in Scotland, he came to Australia as a teenager and later became a naturalised citizen. He was aged 70.
He was a member of the 1960s rock band, The Easybeats and achieved international success as the rhythm guitarist for the group. Almost all their songs were co-written by Young together with, firstly, lead singer Stevie Wright and later lead guitarist Harry Vanda.
AC/DC’s front men Angus and Malcolm were his brothers and their group was one of those produced by George. They paid tribute to their brother saying that without him there would have been no band.
In 1973, Young, Vanda and business man Ted Albert formed Albert Productions. He continued to write songs with his long-time song-writing partner, Harry Vanda. Hits included Friday On My Mind and Love Is In The Air sung by John Paul Young. The pair also wrote songs for Meatloaf and Stevie Wright and were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1988.
The flower is a spider orchid. I don't have any photos of rock stars.

Sorry to heat that. Friday On My Find has to be in the top of my favorite songs. Every time I would hear it on the radio I would go wild singing and dancing and it really lifted my mood. RIP

That orchid is nice!
It's sad he passed away. I didn't know of the "EasyBEats" - though it's interesting his connection to AC/DC

Some groups are really only known in their own countries - and it was some years ago that The Easybeats were popular.

I never heard of him . The only Australian group I am familiar with is the Bee Gees. Actually, I just played the clip.I know the tune but not the artist.

I'm sure many pop groups are only well known in their own countries.

Thanks for that Alfredo. I appreciate it. I try to use my own photos and actually didn't think about searching for one of him.

It is a shame that a lot of rock and roll artist from the 1960s and 1970s are dying out.

I didn't know he wrote "Love is in the Air." My favorite guitarist, Gary Moore, once covered "Friday on My Mind." What a great song. R.I.P., George.

@JudyEv - That's true, every band has a hierarchy.
