After six weeks since hurricane Irma, the appraiser was finally here today to access our damages on our house. We never got on top of the roof so we did not know we even had so much damage.
When some of the gutters came down from the roof it slammed into the screens on our screened in porch causing a few tears.
Shingles were missing from the roof top and of course we lost most of our carport.
While he was here my husband called the repair man that was doing a lot of the work for other houses in our community. All the ones he did were a lot worse than ours and we knew we would have to wait until those homes were taken care of.
Now on to the next step. We have to wait until the adjuster puts in the claim and then wait for our turn to get the repairs done. We are patient people and know others are worse off than we are.

I hope it works out for you. I had some insurance people here when there was a tornado here.

Hope you won't have to wait too long to get your home repaired. At least you won't have to worry about snow or ice (like us here in the NorthEast).

Because all the big money is in south Florida, we are still dragging our feet here in Gainesville with hurricane cleanup and recovery efforts. All the contractors, waster haulers, tree companies, roofers, etc. have hauled butt down to south Florida, where they can probably make 10 times the amount of money than they can here in north Florida. So we still have lots of buildings, houses, and yards that still need repairs and cleanup. We'll just wait patiently until all those contractors return from south Florida.

@ramapo17 I don't have any damage at all. I was one of the lucky ones. But we had a lot of damage all over the city from all the big oak trees and pine trees being knocked down and crushing people's houses and cars.

Since they picked up all the debris that was laying all over our yard from the carport, it doesn't both me any more that the carport isn't done yet. All I have to do is look around at so many other homes around here that are way worse than ours and I am just thankful ours is not that bad.

i know. how slow things seem to work when it is yourself getting things fixed and being in a rented house, i just wonder if our owners/landlords will bother fixing it or just take the money and say let it go.

After a major hurricane, many are homeless and can't return to their place of residence. They have to handle those situations first, I believe.

@ramapo17 We had a tornado touch down, about five years ago. Miraculously, nobody was injured, but trees had toppled onto houses, about ten cases. The main damage was from rain water, that destroyed most of their furnishings and of course, the roofs were destroyed.
