A hippeastrum and a shout-out for Patsie

Birthday posts are not allowed here but Patsie Hatley (@Hatley) turns 91 tomorrow so her post said. It was written on 14 November so that’s today for me. Patsie had been a member for nine years and has contributed 6,732 discussions. What a wonderful achievement - to be still contributing at 91 years of age and with so many posts. She also creates her own artwork. Perhaps if you have time you might like to visit Patsie’s post and wish her a Happy Birthday. I’m sure it would make her day. I know birthday posts are against the rules but perhaps it will be up long enough for people to see and take notice of. And so it’s not all about birthdays I thought you might like to see my hippeastrum which blooms each year despite an almost total lack of care from me. There are another two buds on the plant. I think this is a common colour but it’s still very pretty.

Beautiful flower Judy. I am sure that Admin will not delete her post. I have seen so many birthday posts here, only a few were deleted, there was no content at all except the "wish me happy birthday".

@JudyEv Patsie should not get mad and call people "jerk" when a new user (who does not know her) make her notice that her posts are full of typos. It is very true, sometimes I cannot even understand what she writes, but I comment anyway.

@LadyDuck I have a lot of trouble reading some too. I used to move on but now I try to leave comment. She needs points for trying.

I think Patsie is so feisty. Sometimes her posts are a bit hard to read. Perhaps she has issues with her sight but she still keeps going. I really admire her for still being able to use her computer at her age. I know a lot do but many more don't.

@ilocosboy I think I have read about it at some time but I can't remember now. It's some sort of graphics programme I think.

@shaggin My mother made 104 but my brother was only 79 which is quite good but probably loses a bit if your Mum got to be 104.

Gorgeous plant, Judy. I don't know whether I've ever seen one before. I know I'm not familiar with the name. I will look for Patsie's post as I missed this yesterday.

My Christmas Cactus blooming the first time in 2017.
@JudyEv I have a house plant, a Christmas cactus that sounds seems to get a similar treatment from me. I rarely water it yet it has new blooms. Anna thinks it's because I dent over water it that its blooming again. I think it needs a bit more water than I tend to give it. Whoops, that's my sideways, uncropped version.

@MarshaMusselman I've seen these and they are beautiful. Certainly a cactus wouldn't appreciate being over-watered.

I think they are fairly common over here. They must be tough to survive my treatment.

@JudyEv You got it right Judy, Alex has deleted some birthday posts. It's part of the rules not to write about "personal milestone". Even the earning posts are personal milestones, but most of the times they are not deleted.

If you don't know her, you'll find her posts perhaps full of errors and it might be difficult to decipher what she is trying to say. But at her age she deserves our tolerance and forgiveness (for her mistakes) I think.

What? Never heard of a hippeastrum? I don't think it has a 'common' name although they are sometimes called just 'hippies'. .

@sishy7 Anything that has a central part and little petals radiating out from it is a 'daisy' in my book - unless it's a dandelion.
