Do You Experiment with Recipes?

I bought a new rice cooker. I use it almost every day to make oatmeal. I like the fact that the oatmeal is done in an hour. In the evening yesterday, we were looking for something sweet. I decided to make rice pudding.
When I make my usual rice pudding it takes 2.5 hours in the oven, that wasn't going to work and I didn't feel like standing there for 30 minutes stirring my stovetop version. I tried making it in the rice cooker.
As with most things I experiment with in the recipe area, this one was edible and actually quite enjoyable but far from perfect. I am going to need to tweak my recipe. I cooked it in milk but it was too dry and the rice was not quite cooked enough. I think next time I may add an egg and definitely change the proportion of rice to liquid.
It was also not quite sweet enough. We fixed that by adding a little maple syrup and poured cream on to add liquid. I used vanilla and nutmeg as the spices and that was a little light on nutmeg for my taste. I also added golden raisins.
It was good enough that we both ate our bowl of rice pudding but far from what I hope the final version will be like. I just need to keep notes, which I never do, of what exactly I am adding and how much, I rarely measure.
Do you use a similar method of trial and error?
Th picture is not my rice pudding I was too busy eating to take a picture, lol.

You can really make a lot out of a rice cooker. I can't survive without it in my kitchen.

I sure do. I change most recipes to my own taste. I add or subtract items too.

You sound like a real cook. I like to get ideas and them embellish them as you say to my taste.

I tend to mess around when I cook or bake. Last week a person asked me to give her the recipe for my sweet potato pie. Oh boy. How to explain the whys and wherefores of sweetening a pie with dates and no granulated sugar? I tried. I told her to start with yams. I never put a canned product in a pie. You just got to get the feel of how thick the filling is and that's done by trial and error.

@BelleStarr My bread recipe is a Betty Crocker white flour recipe. Or it started that way and is now added on and messed with.

@BelleStarr I quite like that dish, the rice pudding. My sister hates it for some reason (when we were children, I ate hers! )

Life for me when it comes to cooking, has always been Trial and Error even back when I used to do a lot of Baking. I never think about adding some of these ingredients when I do Rice for dessert, etc but maybe I should the next time.

If I am comfortable making the dish, I do experiment with recipes. If it is a brand new recipe, I might tweak a few thing but not many.

from the comments that doesn't seem to necessarily be the case but I would have thought so too.
