House problems: I use leftovers and my friend doesn´t.

I am proud to say that I use all my leftovers. Even more, I have taught Leticia to use them and she has been able to save at her house and eat better because of that. Lely, the friend I have at home now, Calls leftovers "stale food". She throws them away and I had to stop her after a while because for me it it not acceptable to throw away good food and I save a lot not doing it. Today there is some leftover meat from yesterday´s casserole. I´m invited for lunch tomorrow so I will eat it tonight. I´m sure that if I don´t, she will throw it while she is alone. She came here after living for several years in the US. She told me as soon as she arrived that in the US, deep freezers were not used anymore to preserve the quality of the food. I answered that supermarkets have deep freezers where we don´t see. I love them, but I hope their problems stop and they can find a house for themselves. I need my space

I keep leftovers to eat for later too. I could never bring myself to throw away food that is still good.

There is nothing wrong with leftovers. Wasteful to toss away.

My husband has two cousins that do not eat left overs. They make to much food and just threw it all away. Where I make left overs on purpose and than freeze the left overs for another day.

I understand you so well. I love my friends, I like if they stay some days in our home, but after a week I need my space and our privacy. I never throw food, this is how my parent grew me.

@LadyDuck It is true. Although I love them, I think that no one can stand other people for too long. I have expressed my wishes that when I get very old so that I cannot live alone, to find a decent place for me OUTSIDE their homes.

I myself don't eat leftovers. Neother does many I know. Family and not. But it's a personal choice. The issue to me would be if shes throwing away your food.. not hers.

She is in a great part. They help out with the food but I pay for most of the things.

@marguicha then I'd say it's an issue you need to bring up to her.

@Courtlynn I bring up some subjects without pressing too hard. They have no where to go until they do all the necessary arrangement to live here and bring their money to the country.

Its nice of you to offer your home up to help them. Really nice. I think its not considerate for her to throw away your leftovers. I am of the US and no one I know doesnt eat their leftovers. I guess thats the difference between savvy and unsavvy people.

We put leftovers in the refrigerator but sometimes we forget to eat them again so they end up being thrown away

When I only had Leticia, we ate almost all the leftovers in one or other way. Now, with my friends, I eat some food that although they are no leftovers, Lely does the same over and over again.

there are people who like a new dish at every meal, but they also make sure they always cook just the right amount that they can eat so there's no leftovers.

I agree. And while I was alone with Leticia I knew most of the time how much to cook. Still, there are leftovers sometimes. I always cooked a cup of rice for us and saved the rest in the fridge. But Lely calls it "stale food".

Don't you get your frozen foods from deep freezers in the supermarkets? Ours have freezers in the shop with slide-back lids.

I told them today that supermarket frozen food are no different from the food I freeze in the deep freezer.

I use to throw left over foods before but then I realized many are starving and couldn't almost eat. So I decided to keep it in the fridge and cook it later and serve it as one of our meals.

Some leftovers are better than the first meal. I make minestrone if I have leftover pasta with pesto.

I'm okay with leftovers. I always keep the leftover in my fridge to be cooked the other day. Well, I hope she can understand you.
