Iam curious why it costs $30 fot a new printer yet $56 for ink So i bought a new printer as i don't use it often and need a copy of my resume. This place wants a paper copy instead of online.

Eh, modern printers generally aren't made to last all that long, at least on the basic consumer level. The ink is where the companies are really making money on printers, especially with the push to switch to the manufacturers' ink subscription services lately. Plus they can afford to get the printers out there cheaply, because they know they mostly have a captive audience when it comes time to buy new cartridges. Third-party services exist, but remanufactured cartridges often suck. There's no telling how many times a cartridge has been refilled, and sometimes the quality control procedures the companies that refill cartridges use don't catch issues that can ruin a printer. Not to mention the cartridges often have chips in them these days that tell the printer that it's okay to use them... it's getting harder to find compatible third-party cartridges for some of the newer models. I bought a laser printer a few years back. Toner's expensive as heck, but with my printing habits I can easily get about 10 years out of a single cartridge in it. Might as well just print at the library or a copy shop for the amount of times I've used it recently...

A very complete and sound answer (as you'd expect from Yukimori, of course!) We don't see you around often enough these days, Yuki! (But the same might be said of me as well, perhaps).

@yukimori I always hated punching time cards! Your princess must be getting quite big now. I hope that she still loves her animals (especially jumping owls!)

@owlwings Aw, thanks! I've been lurking occasionally, but nowhere near as often as I used to. I'll probably be on more in the coming days, since I'm newly unemployed as of today... in a good way, I should add, as my very part time job has been compounding my health issues. While it was kind of forced on me I'm looking forward to the opportunities it presents without the constraints of punching a timeclock.

They sell the printers cheap and make the money off of the ink.
