"The Last Jedi" Opening Night!

United States
December 14, 2017 2:41am CST
Tonight Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters. My partner, sister, youngest brother and his girlfriend, and I are all going. We have tickets for the 9:45 p.m. showing but will get to the theater to wait in line probably around 7:00. Hopefully that is early enough to get a good spot in line so we can grab seats next to each other once they let us in. I always go to see the new Star Wars movies opening day (or night.) This is a tradition my family has observed since the first prequel, The Phantom Menace, was released when I was a freshman in high school in 1999. I have seen all of the new films multiple times in the theater. I have not seen the original movies (other than the first one) on the big screen, unfortunately. When they were rereleased in the mid-90s, the first one (A New Hope) played at the main theater in town, but the other two (The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) played at a small theater downtown, and my dad would not drive me and my sister there so we could see them. They were originally released before I was born. I have been counting down the days to see The Last Jedi. I am very excited. It might seem lame, but this is the highlight of my year. This year has been a very sucky one, so it's nice to finally have something to look forward to. Do you have plans to see the new Star Wars movie?

I enjoy the Star Wars movies, but the only one I have seen on the big screen was the first one. We went to the drive-ins to see it. Was a good film. My husband and I don't go to the movies. We did promise one another that we would make time to do fun things together and movies were on our list of fun things. Just not happening. Kind of sad about it.

I used to love going to the drive-in here when I was little. It would have been neat to see the original Star Wars movie there! I'm sorry you and your husband haven't been able to go to the movies or do anything fun. Hopefully you'll be able to make time to do things like that, and also have the funds to do so also.

A lot of people don't care for the movies. I have been a fan since I was 13. I am actually not sure how I feel about the new movies though. I kinda wish they'd just left the franchise alone. Disney is going to run it into the ground.

Yes, that is the truth. We rarely go to the movies anymore because it's so expensive.

They do not "feel" like they are Star Wars movies...there is just something lacking about them. I am not sure how I feel about them yet. I think I will probably pretend like they don't exist and just stick to the original movies, since the new ones sort of keep ruining things.

@JohnRoberts Yes, I am aware of this. Sometimes cheesy Disney dialogue creeps into the film, which makes me cringe.

@Srbageldog George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney so they are now Disney movies with no artistic input from Lucas.

We do not go out anymore to watch movies. I am not a big fan of Star Wars, we watched the first one at the cinema, the others when they were released on DVDs. I will do the same with this last one.

It is very expensive to go to the theater anymore, so we only go once in a blue moon. After the final movie comes out in this current trilogy, I will no longer see the movies in the theater I think (at least not opening day.)
