“Saturday in the Park” was one of Chicago’s biggest hits going gold at #3. The album “Chicago V” was #1. Robert Lamm is lead vocalist and songwriter with Peter Cetera performing chorus vocals. The song’s inspiration came from what Lamm observed looking down on Central Park. “Saturday in the park I think it was the Fourth of July” And so it goes. Those with long memories can hear it in the head. There is no more ideal song than “Saturday in the Park” in expressing the leisurely joys of a lazy afternoon in the park. Lamm writes of people dancing and laughing, eating ice cream and listening to Italian songs. Everyone is having fun.

Isn’t that a little old for you? (Sorry, someone was going to say it, and I thought you should hear it from someone other than @JolietJake for a change....)

Robert Lamm was a the main songwriting force on this album. He wrote many of the band's big hits among one being, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" A personal favorite

This song will always remind me of my teen cousins that came down to visit from Sacramento when we were kids. My mom allowed them to buy whatever they want, and my oldest cousin got this album. My parents had that gigantic wooden coffin-like stereo at the time . . . my cousin played this song over and over on the record player and ended up messing up the needle. Those days it was way expensive to repair stereos, so my dad was mad . . . and they never fixed that thing (they still have that stereo). That's my story associated with this song .
