I am in Computer/Internet Hell!!!

Last week I spent several hours trying to get my Internet straightened out on my new laptop. I had to upgrade to faster speed to make it work but after that it was fine. This morning my computer updated Windows 10 for hours and now my Internet is not working again. I can use my phone as a hotspot and it is fine but not on the Wireless that I pay for in my house. I am tempted to get rid of the wireless but if I do I won't be able to use my Firestick. I know it is this laptop and some setting it has. I am hoping when I get back to Connecticut it will be fine but there is no guarantee I guess. I have my older laptop with me, I am going to see it if will work for me. I am just so irritated. I hate this laptop and I hate Windows 10. I would have thought that when I paid to have the Geeks set up this computer for me they would have put all the updates through. This is not a new update, I looked it up and it has caused issues with some computers.

It is likely that the update has reset some settings to default and just need reconfiguring.

I completely shut down my laptop and rebooted the router and now it seems to be working correctly, I certainly hope so. I figured it was as you said but I have no idea what it reset. I am hoping it has now returned to normal!!

This must be so annoying. The Windows 10 updates take forever and always seem to cause problems for a while. I hope you're able to get it fixed.

How annoying for you. Are those Geeks not available to help you, or are they back in Connecticut? I've had no problems with windows 10.

The Geeks are in Connecticut, They have Geeks here as well but I certainly don't think I should have to pay again when they didn't do it right the first time.

Sorry totally at a loss when it comes to PC problems. I bought a used laptop for myself in December and it has Windows 7 it has been working fine but I do most of my work on my desktop PC. Hope you get it all straightened out.

Nearly every time I get Windows updates I have some issue with my computer. A few months ago there was one and I had to have my movie launch software reloaded. It disappeared.Luckily a Microsoft tech did it for free.

I had the tech guy here for more than an hour today, he replaced my gateway and it seems to be working, for now at least lol

The update surely messed up some parameters. I see that you already rebooted the router and now it's fine.

When we got rid of my last computer we went with a Apple and it was not easy to learn how to use it for me, but now I wouldn't have anything else. Good luck with getting help.

@BelleStarr All of our children are Apple people, computers and phones, so we had a lot of help and asked them to help us. I love my Apple but would not be good without of the help of our children...

Yikes! I feel for you. I believe you should be covered by the Geeks, even here in Florida. They set up my Windows 10 at home in CT and it works just fine on my computer. I only use Apple in Florida. We have Comcast/Xfinity. Cable Vision at home. Who are your providers?

Here in Florida it is decca we have no other cable choice in this resort!! At home exfinity as well!! The tech replaced my gateway today and right now things are working great

My newish laptop, is windows 10 and i hate it. And yesterday i used it for about 3 hours, and when inshut it down, it went to a black screen and the light for being on was still lit and stayed that way for 30mins. So irritating Hope you stop having issues soon

I get the Internet tech to check it out and he gave me a new Gateway and that corrected the issue.

I know a little about computers but somethings with new programs are beyond me. I did know however that I thought it was the Gateway and as it turns out, I was right,

Aaargh you have my sympathy. When you don't know how to find out what you need to change, it is just so difficult. I hate to admit it but I would be really stuck without my resident IT expert.

Look at internet settings, sometimes it automatic goes to airplane mode. Mine did that once.

@BelleStarr My last computer crashed when I updated to windows 10. I hate all updates, because they can cause so many problems, and the frustration of it all is worse than the actual problem. I really hope you get it fixed soon.

The Internet company sent a tech and after an hour of checking things he replaced the gateway and that corrected the problem.
