Sunday Sauce (or gravy depending on where you're from)

Being originally from New York and having lots of Italian friends Sunday gravy was always on the stove. But me, being of Irish decent always call it sauce. Either way, it's on the stove and it's starting to smell so good. I come from an Irish background but somewhere along the line my grandmother must have learned to cook from Italians. She was awesome in the kitchen and mostly cooked with Italian flair. She made the best meatballs and her Sunday sauce was filled with not only meatball, but sausage and bits of pork chops. I fondly remember those Sunday dinners at my grandmothers house where the family would gather round the table and have a feast. I think I inherited my grandmothers love of Italian food since it's my favorite. Today my big pot of sauce (or gravy) is simmering and it's filled with meatballs and sausage (no pork chops). I can't wait for dinner tonight but in the meantime my day will be one of relaxing. Aside from chatting here for awhile I have some crafts I want to work on and I have a book that's calling my name. What are you doing for fun today?

I'm doing a bit of cleaning today. I am trying to find a recipe online for salmon filets, I believe we'll have that for supper tonight.

@Marilynda1225 I like it if its done right. I will pan fry mine and then make a little mixture of 1 part vinegar and 2 parts maple syrup and put that on at the end. It caramelizes and is delicious!

We always had a large Sunday dinner, usually with gravy of some sort. My favorite was chicken, which my mother always made special.

My sister in law learned to cook Italian from her Italian mother in law . . . I think they called it gravy too. I heard making "gravy" is a longer process than just sauce - so it actually is more like a gravy? In any case, it sounds yummy!!!

@Marilynda1225 I think of that brown salty stuff too - something you put on mashed potatoes or turkey!

I think gravy is a long process and filled with meat. My concept of gravy is brown and you put it on mashed potatoes

@Marilynda1225 I suspect that gravy is a sort of what is called "roux" in France, butter, flour and sauce from meats.

We have 'gravy' with roast meals but if it is more a tomato-type concoction then we'd call it sauce.

Fun? Painting and cleaning up what I tore out. I call it sauce, for me gravy is flour or corn starch based. I love Italian food as well, being a lot of Irish myself.

I remember Sunday sauce when I was growing up - we would have it with freshly baked bread.

When my Grandma was alive we always had Sunday dinners at her house. Spaghetti and meatballs. With gravy or sauce. I think we used both terms. Guess that was my introduction to loving Italian food

I'm going to work on teddy bears. It seems to help settle my thoughts. I also have to contact a neighbor about clearing up the remains of my house. He hasn't gotten a bid to me on the demolition. I also need to go down and take pictures before any work is done. I'd rather sit and cry, but it doesn't accomplish anything. Thinking along the lines of fun, I'd love to go down to our "big city" and hit some of my favorite places to shop. Then go to the animal shelters and find some kittens that need a home. Imiss my fur babies a LOT!! But right now it's only a dream.

Sauce and gravy are two very different things to me, and all I know. Sauce is for pasta, while gravy is for mashed potatoes rolls and meats.. lol. And I'm both Irish and Italian and never heard of a suace called gravy or gravy called sauce.
