I still want to watch videos mostly created by me using a dvd player. I wanted to replace my old one and the one from where I normally get such gadgets told me there is no demand for such gadgets any more. Just a couple of manufacturers have them. I will get one. A Blu Ray Opting for cell phone viewing is what most do but I just cannot understand how anyone can enjoy movies on cellphones.

We got the Blu Ray, but also have a DVD/VHS tape player! Yes, we still have some VHS tapes here - and we can find some still at the library. But phone viewing of a movie - no thanks . . . I don't even enjoy watching YouTube videos on the phone - the screen is just too tiny!

@allknowing I couldn't tell you the model - but it is a Toshiba . . . the VHS part is on the left side and the DVD on the right! We got rid of a lot of our VHS tape collection, but we kept some. Since VHS tapes are so dirt cheap now (especially at library sales - sometimes they have been only .25 each!), we will buy them every now and then if it's something we wouldn't likely find in the library.

@much2say These days I hardly get time to watch movies but those that I create myself specially of those parties I would love to watch them full screen.

Wonder what it will be when AI replaces everything. Perhaps I could sing the song that is there on your mind. Just type Judy Evans and your mind will open up to me including your dirty thoughts

A mobile phone is not practical for such use. DVDs are still very popular, so I cannot understand why you was told different.

Honestly, Koalemos, I watch movies either on my 6" ZTE phone or on my 12" Nextbook tablet. Since the screen is only a foot away from my face, it is plenty big enough to enjoy movies on.

Understandably DVD players and DVDs have become things of the past with the advancement of technology. Now you have smart TVs, which connect through internet either to your mobile or any other device to beam programmes/movies. I never bought a CD or DVD player.

@dpk262006 The fact of the matter is most watch movies on their cell phones while they are on the move. I know there is no limit to upgrades but one should go for what one is comfortable with. I do not have a single App on my mobile nor do I have whats up.

Wow well that is terrible. I had so many vhs tapes then my vhs player broke and I couldn't buy another player. Now DVD players are next I do have a Blu-ray player but I don't recall if it plays regular DVDs or not. Try ordering one online from Wal-Mart if that is an option where you live.

I got mine yesterday and it is working fine. It also has a USB port for inserting pen drives. We have a shop where I have been buying and they came over and installed it for me.

@shaggin (smiling at you) Yes, Blu-ray Players can play regular DVDs. It will also up-convert the DVD video as close to Blu-ray quality as it can. (Blu-ray Players can also play CDs, if you still own any.) If you still have home-movies you recorded onto VHS tapes, you can have those scanned, upgraded and stored as a digital copy. Many of the camera shops have the capability to rescue those cherished home-movies.

I know. I have a DVD player for one particular reason: I like a lot of British TV shows from the late 60s/early 70s, and they aren’t region 1 coded for the US. Therefore, I bought a region-free DVD player. It also came in handy when The Ghost and Mrs. Muir was released on DVD in Australia (region 4).

There will soon be a time when discarded modes will get back their status (lol) Until then there will be upgrades. I am not for upgrades

@JudyEv — both seasons came out a couple of years ago in Australia. Made me so happy to have a region-free DVD player. I had a ferocious crush on Edward Mulhare when I was 8.

Yes, you are right. In fact, we haven't used our DVD player maybe more than 2 years already. Hubby and I would just watch on my iPad, while already in bed. It's more convenient for us.

You mean you individually watch on your respective IPads?. Are you happy with the size of the screen? So family watching together is now out of fashion.

@allknowing No, on my old iPad. Yes, it has a big screen triple my J7 pro screen. Besides we watch it while lying in bed side by side. Our daughter is in Manila, so there's the two of us only. We have a tv but it's for repair since it has no sound and besides it only has two local channels. The family tv is in the receiving room, with the in-laws still watching after dinner. We watch with them while eating dinner.

Hmmm... did you check with Amazon.com, Always smiling? I've seen DVD players there... I converted my VHS home movies to DVD twenty years ago. A few years ago I transferred the DVD movies to digital copies and stored them on a flashdrive. I can watch them on my pc or my phone. We still have a VHS/DVD player/recorder but haven't used it since I transferred all those files. We did buy a Blu-ray Player, but have never used it.

I hear you. We are being forced to streaming period and a total pay for anything you watch which is more lucrative than DVD sales which are still good. Big business doesn't get a nickel for that library DVD or DVD you borrowed.

Big business also doesn't get a penny for any music or movie you stream from YouTube, Putlocker or OpenLoad. (I know there are many more free video/music streaming sites available but these are the three I use the most.) As long as you have high-speed Wi-Fi in your home, you can stream any movie for free from one of these sites.

The screen is too tiny to watch movies all the time on a cellphone! A lot of people do have devices connected to their TVs these days to allow them to enjoy streaming content, like a Roku or Chromecast. We do still use our DVD player, but a whole lot less than we used to use it.

Amazon has such a device too. I must see if I can get one but I would not know how I could use that for movies that I create.

@allknowing I know with a Chromecast, you could watch movies that you created on your TV if you have a digital copy on a computer. You'd "cast" it from the computer to your TV.

Who knows cellphones/smartphones will be replaced by human fingers. I dont know how it will happen, it will operate in air with the help of laser beam technology. You just need a switch to start the phone in the air.
