India is an Asian Country with highest population only next to China. It is having many interesting things worth discussing. This country is having more than 830 languages including the dialectics and this has been recorded in Guinness World Records. Is it so? That's what the girl in the picture published here says! What do you say? On a currency note we have printing of the denomination in seventeen languages. How many languages do you have in the country you live in? May I know a few of them? I just checked and what @owlwings writes is correct. There are 7202 spoken languages in the world and 440 are at risk of extinction. My country (Italy) is very small, but there are 32 different languages spoken. North Korea only 1, it shows that there is a dictator there.

@AKRao24 We had foreign domination in Italy, from different countries. So in the Italian regions people still speak the languages of the ancient dominator. Of course we all speak Italian too.

I had no idea. Even if the languages are closer to 400 that is still alot. There are several different languages spoken in the US but many of them are confined to certain sectors. English and Spanish are of course, the primary languages spoken here.

@AKRao24 It is not an official language but plenty of people speak it, and most of our packaging and instructions are in English and Spanish. Not as many people speak Spanish as English, don't get the wrong idea!

I think that you have misread the information. According to the Economist's figures (as reported in Asian Correpondent). Papua New Guinea has 830 languages and India comes fourth with 438. The British Isles has five or six living native languages (some would exclude Cornish and some would say that Scots is distinct from English, rather than a dialect). Of course, very many more languages than that are spoken in Britain because of recent immigration.
If you have the time and patience, then this would be an interesting question to ask any bystander in India: How many languages are spoken in India? My guess is you will get as

That's lots of dialects. Here in the Philippines, we have major dialects, 8 of them are spoken nationwide. And around 120-187 dialects. I know how to speak Filipino (my national language) and Pangasinan is my dialect. I know how to speak a little of Kapampangan. And I can understand Ilokano phrases.

It is dialects that increases the number of languages in a country. Since India is densely populated and is having quite a good area we tend to have more languages here. Nice to know about the Filipino language and other languages you speak there dear @jobelbojel ! Thanks ! Have a great time!
