Broken Promise is the first book in a Promise Falls Trilogy of thrillers written by Canadian author Linwood Barclay, former humour columnist for the Toronto Star Newspaper. I did not know this was part of a trilogy. I picked this book up at he library where old books are up for sale for a donation. I think I paid .50c. I was a little intimated by the size of the book but it was a very easy read. If you have read any of my previous reviews you would know that easy reading is important to me. Short chapters make me read a book faster. When I finished Broken Promise after 3am this morning, THAT is when I learned it was number one in a trilogy. Oh dang, now I have to find the other two books. LOL! I couldn't put the book down in those last chapters, which makes for a great thriller. It had me hooked, I needed to know more, had to find out what happened. Though I did learn most of what happened, I'm going to have to read the second book if I hope to find out "whodunnit". But that's okay. I love Linwood Barclay and would fork over whatever money necessary to get my hands on all his books. A young woman is charged with the murder of a woman whose baby she has in her "possession" delivered to her, she says, "by an angel". What follows is a very twisted tale of deceit, murder, and an abundance of secrets and sins. Yes, there are still some unanswered questions, of which I will hopefully find in the next two books in the trilogy. But the main story is how did Marla get that baby? And why? So many whys which were all answered. Barclay's imagination is very creative, coming up with amazing story lines with lots of excitement and tension. They're called Thrillers for a reason. I highly recommend all of Barclay's books. I gave this book 5 stars.

@silvermist He's a great one. I am a little biased because I followed part of his career as a newspaper columnist and have also met him in person.

Thanks. I have never heard of this author before this. Glad that you managed to pick up the first of the trilogy and not second or third. Ill keep me eye open for this one.

True that. I would have hated to read the third book in a series before reading the first two. At the end of book one is a sneak peek into book 2, which is probably the norm for series books.

I never read a Linwood Barclay book but I do love a good mystery. I'll have to look for this book/series
