Forest High School Shooting April 20, 2018: Marion County Florida

This morning a friend contacted us to say there had been a shooting at the school in Florida where his son is a student. Soon after he received the call about the shooting, his son contacted him to say he was okay and was being moved to another location. If you have never experienced a violent act against yourself or a family member, you might not understand how horribly frightening this is. He told us that one suspect was in custody and one person was wounded. The world is really spinning out of control, or is that just me?
The sheriff's office reported that the suspect in a school shooting in Florida is in custody.

These things are so scary. I am so happy that they finally have an armed officer at the boy's school now. They just started it in March. It does give us a more secure feeling.

It's tragic when people start shooting at children, I hope they caught and will catch all those who would do this kind of harm.

Many are still against metal detectors, which could at least help somewhat. Students can bring all sorts of things into the school w/o being noticed @rebelann It is a nightmare in some areas.

It seems kids don't have the kind of supervision we had as kids @PatZAnthony then top that with all the crime stories available on regular shows like Law & Order, a kid can get plenty of perverse ideas from those shows.

@rebelann Yes, there are many things for them to consider doing after seeing all the nonsense with games, television and more. Absentee parents are no doubt a part of the issues also.

The world began spinning out of control before we were born, we just never realized how bad it was before. Now, with students posting as things happen we don't wait a week before hearing about it. Plus, did you read that they said that school was prepared for such an event so that there was only one injury and no fatalities? If more places got better prepared hopefully the perpetrators wouldn't even consider going there.

That school is one of many without metal detectors. All of the students could be there with weapons and no one would know. @MarshaMussleman

@PatZAnthony it wasn't a student that brought the weapon in, Pat. At least they were prepared. If someone wants something bad enough there are ways to hide from the detectors. That may help in certain schools but possibly not for all.

It is getting worse. I say that because it has gone beyond threats to terroristic actions. When I was in school we had bomb threats but no actions.

This is all such a mess @GardenGerty The young man we know who was at this school did not let it bother him. He is just happy to be safe. But we really see more reason for metal detectors and bag searches each day!

@PatZAnthony Right! We can't stop things getting worse as God foresaw how things would go and nothing we do would change anything. I always keep in mind what Jesus said in Luke 21:28 about that when we see the signs that he mentioned happening to lift our heads and rejoice as our deliverance would be near. Let's hope it comes soon.

We hear more and more of the same and that is scary. Every day someone who doesn't want to live takes or tries to take other lives hoping to be killed in the event. It's very scary the number of school killings that we hear about now - and restaurants and on the streets...I vacation with relatives in Ocala, its such a nice, quiet town...

I don't think you have to experience things like this to be able to understand how horrible and scary this would be. As I have never experienced a shooting, but know very well, by being a human being, that it is horrible and scary.. And I am glad your friends son is okay.
